  • can't hear through headsets-SOLVED

After the latest update there was a change to the way I hear audio through the head sets when I record music. Before the update I could plug in a monitor or head sets and listen to the live audio from the mic directly without any changes. Now the live audio feed will not play back through the headset unless the input echo is turned on. Audio that is already recorded works just fine. I am not running any effects and I should not need the input echo to hear the audio being recorded. Everything records fine. I just can't hear audio through the mic. I am getting a proper signal

I have tried this on other inputs and it does the same thing. The problem with the input echo is that there is a slight delay when using this and I would rather just hear the raw audio without effects and the input echo.

I am using a VS-100 and it seems to work fine on inputs 5 and 6. The only problem with this is that those inputs are RCA inputs. I would need to plug my mixer into those inputs to hear the audio. That adds noise.

This all changed after the last update. I am thinking that maybe there is a setting somewhere that I am overlooking in the preferences section. After trying to solve this for the last hour I decided to get some input from the good people on this forum. anyone else have this issue?

After further testing I was able to determine that this is not a hardware issue. Monitoring of outputs 1 through 4 do not work. Audio will not go through the physical outputs either. Inputs and outputs 5 and 6 work.

I have tried this hardware device with other software and all the the outputs work. I have tried using the other outputs as default devices in windows and I have no problems sending audio through them. So this is not a driver issue and therefore I can only conclude that this is a Sonar platinum software issue that happened in the last update.

I have never done this but can I am going to try rolling back to a previous version if that is at all possible. I don't even know if this feature is available.

Hi. If you installed SONAR via CCC (Cakewalk Command Center), you could just right click on SONAR (in CCC), and choose rollback to the last release before this.
If not, other will know better.
All the best.

The block diagram for the VS-100 indicates the phones are tapped off the main LR bus inside the VS-100. I would check my phone mix knob it may be turned down and the playback knob is not and that is why you hear sound when the input echo is engaged.

Thanks, Rabeach, that's the first thing I checked. Out of desperation I switched to the mme drivers just to see if it would work, which they did. When I switched back again it started working again so the problem is solved but not without costing me 2 hours of scratching my head.

This computer is old and it is getting buggy. I think it is time that I upgrade it. When I turned it on today it did not see any of my drives. I had to reboot to get it to work. I have had other weird things happen at odd times with this machine that are not Sonar related. Just trying to cover all my bases and see if there was something I was over looking. I am going to start looking around for a new computer pretty soon.

Thanks Zargg I thought there was a feature like that but i was not sure how to do it.

Glad you got it working. Sounds like your power supply might be starting to fail hard to say though.
