When I am into a serious mixing project, for safety I "Save as" the project with a sequential name, songv1, songv2 etc. Then I work on the newest version. (Sonar Platinum)

Occasionally Sonar crashes.  It happens.  Whether its about the plug ins or the phase of the moon, sometimes it crashes and I have to reload the project.  Normally not a big deal.

... not a big deal as long as I remember that I had been working on a slightly newer version. But if I happen to forget, and simply go to the recent file list, and choose the top version... well, that top version is the prior version. This is because, apparently, sonar doesn't save the file of the most recent version to the file list until it is properly shut down. (Doing a SAVE does not add it to the list.  Sonar has to be properly shut down). But , if there is a crash... well.. teh file name is never saved.

So if I forget, and just choose the latest file on the recent files list, I end up working on the prior version until I realize why something I had just changed wasn't changed!

Short of closing out and reopening sonar  file after any SAVE AS operation, any one have a work around for this?

By the way, its been like this since I started with Sonar X1.

As I said I have platinum, and I run with the start screen off. (So much faster, cleaner, and direct  to the point for the kind of mixing I do... usually single songs sequentially.)

This is not a critical flaw. But I just let it happen again and felt I'd sure like not to have to deal with this.

Ideas?

Rick

I do not know of a way to force a recent file list registry update. It is possible to pin the new project in the Start Screen and it will be there regardless of how the session ends.

doing a save as for file backup purposes is ok, but may I ask why are you not using the built-in Scene saves which takes different snapshots of your different mixes????
very awesome feature to use in Sonar:)

I also name my songs versions sequentially (song_a, song_b, song_c) and have had exactly what you are talking about happen to me - The most recent version not making it to the top of the list. Just a couple days ago that happened to me.
Two work-arounds: 1. On the "Quick Start" dialog, always use the "Open a Project" button and select from the Windows file dialog box - sorted by date, or 2. Always name the most recent version of the project "song_current" or some such thing.

The "Quick Start" dialog was replaced by a "Start Screen" in August 2015.

I wouldn't use Mix Recall for backup purposes (nor apparently would einstein36) if that's what you're interested it.
Anything to do with content won't be saved.

Assuming the data is not saved with Mix Recall. consider using "Save Copy As" to save old version and continue working with the current copy. This way the current project name never changes and old copies are still available.
