Hi, I'm about to create a template for my sample libraries which are Play and Kontakt based and I was wondering what kind of methods people use to control articulations/key switches.

This video provided me with some ideas http://youtu.be/fZOqXA4Gq9Y

so my questions are. how do you approach it?
two tracks -for each instrument 1 track for content and another for keyswitches..

Are there any shared drum maps for sonar shared to control sample libraries and keyswitches?

Are there any better methods??

Not that I know of.

I use a drum map for my articulations, see here:

@Bristol Jonesy ... what libraries were your drum maps created?  all labelled  CL_EW_DM  number!

The sample library these were used for is EWQLSO Platinum.

The maps are all labelled CJ (My initials) EW (East West) DM (Drum Map) & number

Sorry they are not more descriptive. I'll have a look next time I'm in the studio and see if I can substitute a more descriptive name.

It would be on the lines of 18 Violins, 5 horns, 3 Trumpets etc

Leave it with me

I generally use a separate track for each articulation.  I could never achieve desired results by key switching, maybe because I find it necessary to layer different articulations together for realism.  (EWQL SO, Hollywood Strings).

I will also have 1 instance of play per instrument.
Instance 1 - Violins 1 and 2 with all their articulations
Instance 2 - Violas and Cellos - with all their articulations
Instance 3 Bass - sometimes Bass + Cello if I had to share V2 with Violas

Brass is set up similar.

I use automation lanes for realtime control. I, then, set up individual midi tracks assigned to the instrument I wish to use key switching for. Thus, midi instruments with automation lanes go in to a folder. Then there is a separate folder containing the midi key switching tracks.
You simply assign the keyswitching track to the same midi channel as the instrument midi track. Folders are named as example: Orchestra Strings for instruments, and Keyswitches for Strings.
