OK- Need to know if this has always been like this because it seems new to me-but that is why I am asking.

I have a midi project, all softsynths. Plays fine, no problems. Right now there are "only" tracks (no separate clips in any tracks yet), iow, track 1 is one big clip, and so on for the project. I do change this as I go on-I am reviving my old midi sequences from my solo act days.

Anyway, I insert 16 empty (new)measures (using project\insert measures at bar 7.
I have already copied to the clipboard the 16 measures of midi-a verse that I want to put there. So I use paste special(tried paste only also) to put the 16 measures of midi info at measure 7 where just I inserted the empty 16 measures with no problems.
Sonar freezes. I mean dead freeze where I have to use task manager and end task?

Now, I did split the tracks to isolate the 16 bars of midi and when I do that all that I describe above works perfectly. Problem is, I do not remember ever having to do that before-I mean I have been using midi sequences on and off since, well late 80's---with Cakewalk since CWPA 6. It was always just cut and paste, and my choice of sliding over, blending old and new, etc.

I hope this all makes sense
Thanks folks
Frank

I think regardless of what you're doing, Sonar freezing on you would be a bug.  Maybe file a bug report?

Hi Frank . . . I've read your post a few times, and I'm not entirely sure what you're doing.
Are you trying to cut and paste midi tracks from an older project into a newer project ?
Or, are you trying to cut and paste portions of a major "track 1" clip to other tracks in the project ?

I don't understand the part where you say  . . . "I insert 16 empty (new)measures (using project\insert measures at bar 7" . . . Guess I have never done it that way.

I would usually select a range of the "track 1" clip, and then "Ctrl-C "copy, and then click on the new track number that you want to paste to, and then click "G" (Go to Time) to go to the time value on the new track, then (Ctrl-V) paste the midi info at that time.

OK-understandable...I am trying to add an extra verse in a midi sequence...simply put

first, the only reason I inserted 16 empty measures is because it would not work just copy and pasting so I was trying different things. This is what I mean by I do not remember having to do all this crap.
OK, this is a fairly recent midi sequence. I want to add a verse in the song so I can play a guitar solo-hopefully that explains what I am doing. So I have to copy and paste "all" tracks at the same beat. Normally I could just copy\paste and be done with it-I would always select, slide over old to make room for new. The paste part is what is freezing Sonar. BTW, the paste does not happen either-just the freeze. The part about inserting measures was only to try to get 16 empty measures...because I was trying anything I could to get it to work-that was a last resort.

The only solution was to "split" the track(s) at bar 7 and bar 23 (16 bars) essentially creating a 16 bar clip on each track that starts at bar 7 and ends at bar 23. After doing this I was able to copy and paste. Probably only had to split the tracks where I wanted to i9nsert the new measures, but I did both ends to be sure.

Hope that makes sense. Really doesn't matter if I use go to time or just click where I want to paste-same thing.
It is actually a very simple thing-it only gets confusing because of the work arounds I had to do to get it to work.

Any clearer? Probably not. Sorry

Does it make any difference if you try to save the project after inserting the blank measures, and then do the paste?

Just curious,
