Building a new PC for myself for music production after a destructive drunk night of accidently spilling alcohol inside my other computer! I got some recommendation from a friend that i should go with i5-3750k Ivy Bridge. Originally I was going to go for a i7-2600K or a i7- 3770. Does sonar x1 take advantage of the mutilcore that i7 has to offer? I am going to mainly work with large sample programs like East West products including their choir based VST, so i need it to handle those programs really well. Also going with 16BGB of memory.

In your opinion what should i go for? i5-3750k Ivy Bridge, i7-2600K or a i7- 3770?

I also do some work with guitar rig, maschine, massive, East West Products. Basically Orchestral pieces like movie sound tracks etc.

Thanks! And also if you can recommend me a motherboard as well that would be great. I need one with lots of usb ports. Can guitar rig, maschine, my axiom midi keyboard all plug in to usb 3.0 ports or just 2.0 ports?

I know i asked more than what the title says, but its my first build and i want a powerful computer that can handle what I do. Thanks

FWIW USB3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0.

You can't go wrong with a i7; either the 2600 or the 3770 and a Gigabyte motherboard.

Go to Newegg.com and they will help you out, good service and low cost parts.

There are, of course many others (on the net) but this one I recommend.

Good Luck!
