I'd still recommend contacting support.

Thanks for the suggestions, yep, ran as administrator, checked permissions, enabled all, plenty of back up space. Weird thing is I've never had these issues during a reinstall before. This is a brand new problem caused by trying to fix other problems, i.e crashes.
- Did you turn off all anti-virus/malware programs while installing?
- What operating system are you using?
- Did Cake support do a remote desktop operation?
- In what order did you install the 32- and 64-bit versions?
- Did you apply the updates to X3 before or after uninstalling/re-installing the other libraries?
- Has your OS changed since you first installed X3? If you're still running the same OS as when X3 came out, it's probably gotten pretty scrambled...
I'd still recommend trying support again. If all else fails, do an incident fix with Obedia.com. There's clearly something wrong and it would seem that worse case, you could be advised how to wipe your system of all traces of both versions of SONAR, then follow the recommended re-install procedure.
It's times like this that removable drives are worth their weight in gold. I tend to think that if you did a clean OS install and then installed SONAR, things would work as desired. The current situations seems like it might be "system dependencies roulette."
I generally advise against re-installing SONAR except as a last resort. The only time I've needed to re-install SONAR is when switching over to a new drive.
