Again, the point of Apollo is that you can hit the compressor while in UNISON mode (with the API or NEVE channel strip) before the signal gets processed further . Then post pre amp you can EQ or add FX, record pre or post UNISON... I don't work for UAD but their audio interface solution is very elegant.

But that signal is digital, not analog.  Batsbrew wants it analog.

It will eventually get DIGITAL to get into your DAW... the question I believe is where along the signal path what processes happen.  Yes, the DAC has run already but nothing else has happened to signal, so, in theory the first thing you could do is compress it before it even hits the virtual preamp of the MIC PRE of unison channel strip.
