As far as I understood, people who own a higher version of Melodyne will lose it (as a plugin) if they update to SONAR's Melodyne 4 Essential. That's not a good thing.
What would be fair and logical would be the possibility to own different versions of Melodyne as plugins. In that case, people would have the choice to use for any SONAR audio track:
- the higher version of Melodyne 3 (for example Editor) that they bought before, with the advanced functions but without the 2016 engine.
- Melodyne 4 Essential, without the advanced functions but with the new engine.

Considering this, I am not sure I am interested anymore to update to Melodyne Assistant or Editor for the moment.

You would have to complain to Celemony about this. They only allow a single version to be installed. That is their decision. If you paid to upgrade Essential 2 to Editor or Studio. you'll need to pay Celemony to upgrade to version 4 of the same thing.

Yes, I know how that works, but there is no technical reason for us not to be allowed to keep 2 versions of the same software. For example, I have several versions of Kontakt Player (4, 5, even maybe the very old 2...) that are installed in my computer.

And this certainly is a Celemony commercial choice, and not Cakewalk's fault.

Me too!!

As from what I can see/tell/gather from correspondence with Celemony, when you reg the first serial # of Essential, that's your number no matter how many copies you get from your purchase of Sonar. Then if you upgrade that upgrade is it now, IOW, you won't be able to go back to Essential.

Every time I get a new Sonar with Essential and I register it, it bumps me up to Editor. I don't have a choice from what I can see.

I have a Surface Pro that I would like to run Essential on, and have Editor run on my other two machines. But to do that, I would have to de-authorize one of my other machines.

At first I was a little upset about it, but the more I thought about it, it made sense. I ain't holding nothing against Celemony and certainly not against CW. I mean CW gave me a free Essential, and a discounted upgrade to Editor. And I got a discounted price to Editor 4!! I ain't ****ing.

Studio 2 allows audio to midi to contain pitchbend info, Studio 4 does not. I never used Studio 2, but if that had become part of my workflow I'd be pissed at seeing it go, whereas I'm just disappointed.

I'm with you Beepster!
I download manually since my first CCC experience didn't go so great, and a bit of a control freak with choosing what I install where.
But it does get a bit tedious to match up mousing over links to see what the file name is vs what I already have downloaded.

C3 has come a long way since it first came out. Might want to give it a second chance. ;)
