  • Strange Driver issue for Roland Studio-Captures

Hi, guys and gals! I have a quick question. Yesterday I had an issue with SPLAT and my 2 Studio-Captures. I tried inserting an older plugin and when SPLAT crashed it killed the drivers for the SCs. All other audio programs still recognize and play sound thru them but SPLAT was dead in the water! I tried turning them off and there was a tip on-line to just unplug them from the USB ports for a moment then plug them back in and SPLAT should recognize them again. I tried to no avail to get them back so I ended up having to uninstall and reinstall the drivers thru Windows Update.
Everything is running fine now but I have two questions.
1-How do I get SPLAT to recognize the SCs if the drivers are still working in other programs?
2-How do I get a copy of the Windows 10 drivers for the SCs so if I happen to be somewhere that I don't have internet access I can still reinstall the drivers from my hard drive?
The only available drivers I see on the Roland website is for Windows 8! I don't want to have to keep jumping online to install my drivers again if SPLAT crashes this hard.
Any advice would be welcome!

Thanks, King, but that is only PDF files about the driver. The actual driver is not in the download. If you read the RED sentence at the top of the page it explains that the driver is only available as a Windows Update file download that gets automatically installed. I just don't want to have to get online everytime I lose my driver.

Sorry. I saw the download and thought the download was an alternate method og getting the drivers. I downloaded the same file a few month ago thinking I had a backup copy of the drivers. I just unzipped it and sure enough it is just a pdf file. I never really checked the file size. There must be some way to get a copy of drivers.

I have scoured the internet and had no luck. It seems odd that Roland would make that driver proprietary of Microsoft Windows 10! I guess I will contact Microsoft or Roland to see if they can send me the file so I can keep a backup on my drive. Anyone else have an idea?

Let us know if you have any luck getting the drivers.  I had the same question.  Kind of crazy that the driver is only available through Windows Update.   Not surprising though, since Roland has cleared out much of their staff in the past couple years.

Stuff available from Windows Update can usually be found here:
https://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx

The trick is to find it. Check the FAQ and help.
A search for Roland Studio-capture gets 4 hits for Win10.

Searched and did not find ANYTHING that resembled a downloadable driver. All info says you have to get it thru the Windows Update. That is rather tedious when you have to uninstall, clean the registry, get online (what happens if you aren't anywhere close to the internet connection?), let Windows Update download and install, then re-setup the driver, etc., etc.,!
I did find that restore would rollback and the studio-captures came back online but that means having to create a restore point everytime you work! God, help us!
I still don't have an answer on why the other audio programs still function and SPLAT does not recognize them until you restore or reinstall from scratch! There has to be an answer to this somewhere.

Are you sure that you need to reinstall the drivers? When my Roland Duo-Capture EX locks up in the way that you describe, I have also found that unplugging/re-plugging achieves nothing. Rebooting the PC restores normal service. Or a quicker way (perhaps only relevant to DC EX, which has a hardware sample-rate switch) is to power it off, flip the rate, power it on, power it down, flip the rate back again, power up. HTH

Hi there
got a studio capture and tried yesterday for the first time, the problem is that i don't want automatic updates and drivers turned on, I usually turn everything off after instaling windows or sometimes do the first updates and then if computer is running ok turn everything off.
so i had to turn on the updates for a few minutes, went to device manager and there it was the studio capture with exclamation icon, right click on that and update driver (choose find automatic...), and everything went good.
but as I said before don't want automatic updates from windows and like you I want that driver too. Why Roland is hiding the driver from us??

another thing is, I had a zoom r24 as an audio interface and was great too, when I was using as a standalone recorder the sound was not so good, but as an audio interface it was great.
so yesterday i was trying the studio capture and while not connected to the computer the sound was not so good, when i listen through phones and comparing connecting directly to my keyboard the sound is nothing close, but using as an audio interface when i start Reason daw, the sound is great too, why this big difference?? it's a limitation to not use as standalone mixer?
thank you and cheers :)
