  • Strange Driver issue for Roland Studio-Captures (p.2)

Christopher, I have tried rebooting. Even unplugging the computer and rebooting and the SCs still don't come back up in Sonar! They work on everything else but Sonar. I have tried the unplugging the SCs from the USB ports trick but still nothing works but reinstalling from scratch.
I plan to contact microsoft and roland today about acquiring the download from them and backing it up on my drive. It just makes no sense to sell an interface and not provide a way to have a backup of the updated driver for it.
Proenza, the interfaces are designed to be used exclusively for hooking to the computer. They are not designed to be used as mixers. Although, it would be nice if they served a dual function like that. Maybe, drop that suggestion in someones email. Pretty good idea!

I think I will ask for drivers too, if we all do the same it will be easier.
but i saw somewhere that this can work as a "standalone something", don't remeber and can't find it.
but even plugged into my computer the sound work i can listen sound on youtube and whatever I want through the interface but the sound just shines when I create an audio track in whatever daw, why the sound is not so good before I launch the music software? am I doing something wrong?

Roland has went to "plug and play" drivers for Win 10 on the equipment they are supporting for Win 10.

But, you can hack the Win 8 drivers and use that.  I originally did that for my Studio Capture when Windows 10 first came out, as it took a week or two for Roland to come up with the plug and play drivers.

There is a thread in the Computer section about how to hack the driver.  I had to hack the Win 8 driver to install my Edirol PCR 500 keyboard as those have been discontinued and Roland is not providing new drivers.

Fireberd, are you talking about the .inf hack? I forgot how to locate the .inf file! I actually printed out the process from the thread you speak of but I became leary about doing that when someone else posted that they tried that hack and it did not work!
I will take another read and see if I want to tackle that. If you remember we bumped in to each other in that thread. Please, keep an eye out here in case I need help.  I have the windows 8 driver installer backed up on my secondary drive.
Do I hack the driver before the install or after? And please explain where the .inf is located! Thanks!

Searched and did not find ANYTHING that resembled a downloadable driver. All info says you have to get it thru the Windows Update. That is rather tedious when you have to uninstall, clean the registry, get online (what happens if you aren't anywhere close to the internet connection?), let Windows Update download and install, then re-setup the driver, etc., etc.,!

You will get a .cab file in your shopping basket to download but the instructions tell you how to unpack it.

slartabartfast, I don't have Internet Explorer anymore. !0 changed that to Microsoft Edge! Any way, I am looking for the Studio-Capture driver, not the Duo.
I did the hack once I found the correct place to hack. The old thread keeps talking about a .INF file. That file name is now System Information file! Once I opened it there was no problem doing the hack! I did print out the tip on how to able and disable the signature before installing.
I have no idea if it works. Everything is running so good now I will wait until, God forbid, I lose my drivers again. I hope it is a long time before I have to find out but I am really curious now!

BTW, for anyone else interested the hack is described in the Computer section of this forum. The top of page 3. Posted by Blades! I printed out these instructions and followed them to the T so I hope this works for all of us. Fireberd, also has a tip farther down that page I believe on how to dis-able driver signing so the hacked driver will install. All very simple instructions. Thanks, guys.
I will try this fix the next time it happens and I will be sure to let you know how it goes.

Roland does not make it easy........I use the Chrome Browser, so I can't access that Microsoft page.  I'm on Windows 10, which has Microsoft's new Edge browser installed, and even it won't access the page.  So to open that page, I have to install Microsoft IE.   Crazy.

IE is probably already installed. At least it was on my Win10 even though Edge is the default.
