I am not a Behringer user or fan by any means, but this http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/XR18.aspx is blowing my mind.  The Bakers should get in on this idea.  That would be the coolest as long as any such wireless hardware would be compatible (in hopes that more makers take on this technology, of course).

Kind regards,

Looks promising:
It's scary to buy anything made by them after I had 2 pieces of gear die, A mixer and a powered speaker. But the little 12 channel XR -12 X air looks like a tempting way to re gain what I have lost in my 01V with on board effects alone.
I am using a small Yamaha mixer but having to add an outboard reverb unit just to be happy with effects. I was going to demo a  $500 TC Helicon  Voice touch just to see if the effects are better. For the $300 these units might be worth it just for effects.

I wouldn't get to excited about the DAW audio interface part.., a tour of their web site and I find no info or links to any drivers. So my guess Sonar would hate it, but Garage band, Logic or Pro Tools will work. Only the 18X units have multi channel anyhow, the 12 and 16 Channel are only stereo USB.
But for $700 a 18 channel digital mixer? I watched the video.

This one has my attention I have had GAS .. QSC Touch mix $1400 street. But if you compare features the Behringer blows it away. One thing is it only works with iPad, The Behringers have developed apps for all common OS systems, Linux, Windows, Mac, Andriod and ipad. Built in Wi Fi and hard wired LAN if Wi Fi bothers you. Now if I can control the music playback of a Tablet ( iPad?) and mix ?? Looks like I might need two tablets..

In a few years analog mixers might become collectors items.

The future:

Totally cable less PA systems.
We are real close aren't we.

If it works it does look promising, I'd been keen to see how it handles latency via wireless.
I dunno though I am I cable kinda guy... I haven't yet seen the point of replacing a cable that does its job perfectly, that said I am rarely doing anything much more than 3 feet from my pc so I can see how I might not be the target market :D

The wireless is for control, it's not for audio. I guess a lot of folks will make that mistake thinking it is a wireless audio connection to your PC.
Audio is output normally via XLR and TRS jacks.
The X18 has 18x18 channels over USB ( Drivers?? :(
The X16 and X12 are only 2 track ( 2x2) like most budget mixers. Which is fine, I would not buy this as an interface anyhow. But nothing to stop you from using the analog outputs into your audio interface if the USB is wonky in Sonar. To bad it doesn't have SPDIF !  That would rock.

I think I'm going to pre order the X12  for my solo and duo act mixer,,, I want the effects! And 2 aux would give me a monitor mix and a sub send like I used to have.
According to the video the effects are identical to the X32.
I can run my laptop via the USB to playback my tracks with win amp and pick up a Tablet to run the faders and mix functions. They make these Tablet holders for mike stands now. I was going to try one for lyrics anyhow,, might 3 of them!

I have been looking for an upgrade for my Quad Capture for sometime, not to replace it, just for live recording with more tracks.

Eyeing on the Studio Capture, but the price is a bit high for me.

Waiting for Behringer UMC 1820 + ADA8200 combo. At around US 400/=, good price, but the UMC 1820 is not released yet after such a long announcement.

Next the Tascam US 16x08 at even better price. And now the X18 at US 700/= and is very tempting.. add a bit and the choice goes back to Studio Capture :)

MOTU added Wireless control to the Cuemix ages ago, i control it with any tablet or phone (android/iphone), nothing new actually!
Also thereś plenty of stuff that will turn a tablet in a midi controller for your DAW...

Hey, John.  Yeah, MUTO does have wireless capability, however, the interface must be connected to a computer.  The XR18 has wireless capability built-in, so it does not have to be hardwired to any device (PC, tablet, etc.).  In that respect it is a unique audio interface.  (That is, it can be used like a mixer for live performance.)

Nonetheless, I would certainly use MOTU before ever considering Behringer.  In fact, Behringer is nowhere on my list.

Kind regards,

Ohhh i see, MOTU does allow you to use their cards without a computer, for mixing live, they even add DSP with reverb/compressor/etc, but the wireless control via Tablet/Phone is available only using a computer. Thank you for that correction!

Presonus now do rack versions of their digital mixers, 16 and 32 channel versions.

The 32, for example, will act as a 32x32 interface with a computer or run standalone with any wireless device such as iPad, tablet, Mac mini, etc, as a controller.

Like I said, I would not look at these as audio interfaces,,, that is a secondary feature and at this point I see no ASIO drivers, so until  there is some word or a download for ASIO drivers I'm not going to get exited about that one detail. They are marketing these as stage boxes, small mixers. It is the X32 in a smaller format.
I think the XR12 will be the one they sell the most. For $300 it can blow away all those cheesy little swiss army knife mixers that sell for under $400 these days. Makes them all obsolete. This is their marketing strategy, watch the video.. he points at a handful of small Behringer analog mixers and goes :" Vee don't need dees anymore,, they are kapoot!"
So it truly is a new price point and fairly new technology.
He states that they have sold millions of small analog mixers, they now plan on selling millions of these.
