I appreciate the replies and suggestions!

As far as the delete hole issue goes - after reading jpetersen's post and poking around the forums some more, the consensus seems to be that it's working the way it always has.  Of course I don't have any evidence to back it up, but it sure feels like something changed.  It's a feature I've used a decent amount, so I'd be surprised to learn that I'd just accidentally avoided the problem until now.

gmp, I tend to keep non-destructive MIDI editing unchecked.  I tried it back and forth both ways this morning, and still had the cut/paste problems.

Thanks!

It's a bit worrying, because this is the second bug I've seen where disabling non-destructive MIDI editing fixes it, at least in some cases... but non-destructive MIDI editing should be the standard, like it is for audio.

This is a very aggravating bug. I really like non-destructive midi editing and leave it checked except when I need to delete the hole. The bug started with X1 I think, definitely in X3. It was clearly not in ANY version of Sonar or Cakewalk from 8.5 back to the DOS days. Sometimes I wonder what Cakewalk is doing, it seems they get too caught up in the new next shiny thing they can dangle in front of us instead of fixing bugs they're very aware of.

Probably not but - might be - ALL tracks must be selected (that need to shift).  Then delete hole.

I've noticed that select all is not working correctly some of the time which plays into the delete hole....

Another thing is that when non destuctive midi editing is checked, any midi note that starts before and ends after a split point in a clip is truncated. This could well be an intended behaviour, but I find it sensationally annoying!

Unfortunately, I'm sure I've had all the tracks selected - but it was worth a look.

Are you referring to this bug below that's also been around for a very long time?

If you try to drag select a bunch of tracks by click dragging the track numbers, it'll sometimes stop selecting when it gets to a particular track and you have to hold I think it's Control or Shift and then click to the last track you're trying to select.

I tend to have some track folders in my projects and this bug may be more prevalent when track folders are around. Still this bug seems to be one that affects almost everyone. I talked to Cakewalk on the phone about it once with X3 and he said if there is a workaround to a bug they tend to put it on low priority.

I can certainly understand that, yet I can’t understand not ever fixing it. I wish Cakewalk would go on a serious bug fixing rampage for a while instead of trying to entice us with new features. My 2 cents!
