I can.

Open a midi track in PRV.
Click the pencil tool.
Click and drag as if you have the selection tool on.

"Calling out your dead"

Sonar has crashed every time since X1? maybe this way for me.
I just lost a lot of work because I didn't save, don't use auto save, thought I had the selection tool on but had the Pencil too active.

When I do it I hear zzzzt. and we're gone.

I have my work redone and saved so I'm in a good mood just wonder if you all can replicate

No issues for me, sorry. I inserted a new midi track, selected the pencil tool, click-held and dragged all over the place with no crash. Does it do this for you every time?

Every time

Is there a synth attached as the midi track out?
I've had it crash driving tts-1 and also session drummer 1

Not here, either. Tested with TTS-1, I don't have Session Drummer 1.
I have X1, X2, X3 and Manchester, also Sonar 8.5.3 although the tools differ there.
No crash following your recipe.
Windows 7 x64, all installs are 64bit versions, too.
Interface: Cakewalk UA-25EX

Yeah I can move the mouse start a browser, tell you all about it etc.
Sonar just dies and goes Not Responding.

Nope, not getting this here, I can freely move, select, drag, lasso, copy, paste, anything really with no issues

Try to change snap settings, does it matter?

Try updating your video card drivers, or if you can, switch to another card.
