  • Question about upgrading

My platinum subscription just ran out.  I'd like to continue membership so that I get the buxfixes and workflow enhancements.  If I renew my subscription at the "Artist" level to save $50, would that remove the functionality I currently have?  For example, would I still be able to use Prochannel and Audiosnap?  And will the plugins that I already own, such as the reverbs included still work?

I looked at the features planned for 2016 and there's nothing that makes me want to pay extra for Platinum.  I don't use the majority of the platinum features anyway.

To be clear: you will receive no further updates to Platinum if you renew at the Artist level. You will instead receive an installer for Artist and will receive updates exclusively for Artist.  You will still be able to use everything you already have, but you will only be able to use some of those things (ProChannel, etc) in Platinum. In other words, you'll need to open your projects in Platinum to get all the Platinum functionality. The plugins, as long as they are not ProChannel, will all port over to Artist since you have them installed as VSTs already. I hope this helps -- let me know if you have more specifics in mind.

My advice would be to wait a couple of months and then upgrade your platinum membership.
$99.00 sale till end of March. So you stay on Manchester for a couple of months, no big deal :)

I would tell you to upgrade to Professional bc you will get to keep ProChannel but the price is the same right now for a Platinum renewal.

OK thanks for the clarifications.

I like Sonar a lot but for some reason I have a psychological resistance to the whole membership idea.  I think the difference is that before, when I would upgrade to the newest version I would get new third party plugins or whatever which made it a very good value.  Without that aspect $100/year seems steep and I may just sit it out, which is a bummer because then I can't get bugfixes or speed enhancements.  I'd be more likely to jump in if there were more improvements on existing functionality, such as improvements to ACT, step sequencer, arpeggiator, drum maps, etc.

Anyway I'll quit my whining now, thanks!

You can always join again when something takes your fancy.
For my money, $99 is extraordinary value, whatever you choose to call it. I'm ok with membership:) Look how far sonar has come this year!

Well we have a few new things coming including some new mastering plugins. Keep in mind, the feature set we announced is just for spring 2016.
