As some of you may know, I have had a really hard time getting started with an interface that will work.  I recently bought the Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 but it is not being recognized on the system. It is a 6 pin firewire card VIA chipset. I was told to buy a TI  chipset which I have done. I haven't tried to install it yet but will tomorrow.

Under device manager it says the card is running correctly and drivers are up to date. Which I believe is a lie. I also tried the legacy drivers but they still haven't worked. The FW light still will not come on the saffire though.

I was wondering if anyone had the same problems with this interface.

I am running windows 7 64 bit.

to me this sounds like a hardware problem with your firewire port(s).  you probably have at least 2 firewire ports on your computer, have you tried the other one?

and I would suggest you go ahead and install the TI chipset firewire card since this sounds like a hardware issue.

the next thing I would suspect would be the hardware for the Saffire itself.  I don't have one, but I know several people who have them on the forums and use them without problems.  if the new firewire port/card doesn't help, then I'd consider returning your unit as defective.

I too would go with the T.I. Firewire card and see how that works.  VIA chipsets are iffy at best.  My Saffire Pro 40 wouldn't work with a laptop that had a VIA chipset.

Ok I'll try to install it myself. I have a question what does it mean by P3 not being able to be used simultaneously as P4. One internal and external. The new TI chipset was only 14 bucks so I don't know how well it will work. If it doesn't work I'll find another. It came with two 1394a and one b. I was trying to find a two output of the a. I had it shipped from a Hong Kong manufacturer.

I don't understand what you mean by "P3 not being able to be used simultaneously as P4" - where do you see that information?  what's it referring to?

as far as your card that has 1394A and 1394B - that may not work well.  I bought one of those as well but it did not stop the popping and crackling on my MOTU.  Scott from ADK posted that it's not good to get a "combo" card of any kind.  not 1394A & B nor with USB or anything else.  it should be a TI chipset with ONLY 1394A ports on it.

Also do you see the focusrite in device manager? the FW light not coming on an indication of not being recognized, even with a non ti chipset it should at least be recognized by windows...

P3 P4 looks like it is referring to the ports.
Note: The internal port (p4) shares with the first external port (p3). Do not use P3 and P4 at the same time.

If I can't use P3 that means it is basically useless. so I can never use that first port???
why is it there in the first place. So after that I am left with one P2 and P1. P2 is B and P1 is A.

ok, but I'm still not clear about where you're seeing this information?  is this something on the package of the firewire card or something?  if P4 is an internal port, what do you need to have connected to it?  do you have an internal firewire device?

but personally I'd send it back anyway and get a good solid TI 1394A (only) card.

no i do not have an internal firewire device. i think I had more than one PCI slot on here. I'll try that one. I am trying to install the one that I have. if this one does not work I'll try to get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815166018

by the way the information is in the user manual. I bought the chipset off ebay but only because this computer tech told me not to waste 70 bucks on a chipset. Plus the chipset must be compatible with windows 7 64 bit which this chipset is.

How do I remove these bracket fillers. I don't wanna break anything. there are no screws in them.
