irvin simply seems to be either totally missing the crucial nuances of what Craig is trying to say or intentionally overlooking them.
Craig is not criticising the vast majority of users who understand Cakewalk is a small set of doods producing a massive product in a saturated market while keeping costs to the end user at a minimum. He is bemoaning that there are a select few who constantly scream "MOAR 4 LESS".
The point being made is there comes a tipping point where the profit margin disappears, it becomes a losing venture and the company goes out of business/their employees starve.
I'm sure that some of the Bakers, if independentally wealthy, would totally love to continue refining and expanding the program simply for the joy of doing so (at least that's the impression I get). But they ain't and Cakewalk isn't a charity.
As far as "subsidizing pirates"... I am of the mindset that 99% of pirates were never going to pay for the software in the first place so no money was lost therefore no subsidizing is taking place. If anything those pirates are more likely to say "hey... this thing is durned cool. I want a legit version!"
Of course I am not condoning or excusing piracy but (IMO) there is a lot of flawed logic and hysteria out there about how much it actually impacts the digital industry.
aaaand I tried not to post in here again but there ya go.
