I've been a Cakewalk forum member since back when they were hosted by CompuServe.
Prior to the forums moving to the Internet, discussions had more of a "professional" tenor (more signal/less noise).
That said, I really don't think these forums are particularly bad.

Bias? Cliques? Extreme response/behavior?
You can find that on numerous forums... (including those where it's popular to criticize these forums)
If the OP is truly interested in peer-to-peer help, he/she will find it (here).
That's something that hasn't changed over the years...
If he/she simply wants to vent, etc... that's certainly their prerogative... but it's not moving toward any type of resolution to the problem.
Working with technical tools has and always will be about problem solving.
In well over 20 years working with DAWs, there's almost always a solution/workaround to a problem.
Just my opinion, but in any social situation, if you open the conversation with "negatively charged" tenor, you're going to turn some folks off. Doesn't matter if it's on GearSlutz, Fractal Audio, Cakewalk, Steinberg, KVR forums... or live in person at a gig, party, etc.
If the OP wants help, ask.
