  • Ctrl+Z not undoing split clip - forced to use menu (Resolved-German keyb reverses Z+Y)

I am currently splitting a live drum recording into song sections. It is hard work and I make lots of mistakes.

So to undo a mistake I go to the menu and use Edit/Undo.
Next to the menu point it says I can also hit Ctrl+Z. This would speed things up a bit, but it does not work. Ctrl+Z is not restoring a split clip.

I have Manchester which I waited for before starting this project because in Lexington, selecting and displaying Midi note values was broken.

I am not on Manchester but Ctrl Z has ALWAYS worked... and not just in Sonar. It's the go to.

Check your keybinding/shortcuts preferences to make sure you haven't bound that combo to another function (not sure if the global menus update to show custom keybindings).

Also what Ctrl key are you using? The one on the left next to the Z or the one on the right?

I've found that in OTHER programs (not sonar) that sometimes it makes a difference which side of the keyboard you use when multiple keys are available (such as Ctrl and Shift).

I have never ever touched any keybinding stuff. But I'll look.
It's the left Ctrl key.

Oh, heck. I see what's happeing.

I live in northern Switzerland and all PCs have German keyboard layouts. This means, amongst other things, that "Z" and "Y" are reversed! Took me a while to get used to this.

So depending on whether the programmer went through the driver, or accessed the keyboard directly, some things work this way, some work the other way.

Anyway: Long story short - if I hit Ctrl+Y, undo works.

I hate this, I hate this, I hate this. Bah.
Mebbe I could find an external USA keyboard somewhere. And buy some Sonar hotkey stickers for it.

Should be working if the binding is still... well "bound". Maybe you have crumbs under your Ctrl key or something. Try the right Ctrl key and/or open Notepad and make sure the Z key is working (which of course it is if you are typing these posts on the same system but maybe you are not).

Cheers.

lol... yeah that'll do it too.

I think you may be able to change your Windows keyboard setting.

The smarter users would have to help you with that though.

I've just tried it here and it works for me in Manchester.

Makes no difference if you switch focus to a different track either.

As Beep says, check your keybindings.

Does ctrl + z work on anything else?

OK, I think I know what happened.

On the bottom bar of the Windows screen on the right where all the little tools are, to the left of them I have a little "DE". If I click on that I can select between German (DE) and English (EN) keyboard layouts.

I think what happened was somehow, no idea how, I must have accidentally had EN selected last night.
Because this morning everything works correctly again. Ctrl+Z = Undo, not +Y.

User problems. Sonar is fine.
