  • Splitting audio clips: How to make right half selected instead of left (Resolved-Prefs)

I am currently chopping up a live drummer comprising 8 recorded microphone tracks into sections.

I begin by selecting all 8 clips, position the Now cursor to where the previous section ends and next section starts, then hit "S".

In Reaper and S1, the right-hand-side half of the split clips get selected, allowing me to reposition the Now cursor to the next section and hit "S" again. I swiftly and easily move through this tedious but common task.

In Sonar it is the left-hand-sides that remain selected, not the right. (What was the reasoning behind this decision?)

This forces me to re-select all 8 right-hand clips manually before I can move up and split the next section. Repeating this throughout the song increases the time required quite a lot and I make mistakes if I don't concentrate.

Does Sonar have a setting where I can reverse this behavior? I haven't found one.

It's in the "Edit > Preferences > Customization - Editing" page. There's a dropdown menu that allows you to choose which behavior you want under the "Clips" header. I change it occasionally if I'm doing a huge chunk of specific editing.

I personally think this could/should be easier to access though because my needs in this regard flop around quite a bit during the editing process.

There may be an easier way but generally I either change this option or do it manually as I go. A keybinding or HUD option would be cool.

BTW... I am almost positive that the Right clip is selected with a default install so maybe you changed something or something has changed since I first installed Sonar.

Or perhaps it annoyed me years ago and I don't remember changing it originally... and since I change it occasionally as I edit all trace of that action (amongst the thousands upon thousands I've performed since) has been purged from my memory.

Ah, what a relief! Thank you.
There's so much in Sonar.
I wish I'd asked sooner...

No, it's the left. In the dropdown, it even says "Left (default)".

There's lots of defaults I don't really agree with in Sonar.
But hey, I'm moving on. I have an all-nighter ahead of me.
Many, many thanks.

I know you get a little angsty sometimes but you seem genuine so just ask. You'll always get help if it's available. It is indeed a HUGE program with lots of areas.

Same with any professional program though. Not just DAWs. Ask me about Photoshop. The most help I could give you on the most basic tasks is fart in my hand then smell it.
