Back in the 8.5 days, I bought Melodyne Essential 2.0 as a standalone product. Then Sonar integrated it, and I didn't install it as I already have it.

Now, Sonar is supposed to come with an upgrade from 2.0 to 4.0. Great! Only catch is... Cakewalk Command Center says that I have "1.0.0.7" installed, and that there is no update available for it.

What do I do?

The version number in the Command Center refers to the Cakewalk installer, not the version of Melodyne. You will need to log into your Celemony account to update Melodyne.

My update of Melodyne that came with Sonar was done outside of Sonar. Melodyne sent the link to the update, I deleted the 2.0 version and then followed the Melodyne link to D/L and install the 4.0 version. It all went very smoothly, but it was completely outside of Sonar as the new update didn't contain any Melodyne installer or files.

It seems like most people were expecting it to be part of the Sonar install package, but it looks like Cakewalk paid for the license (thank you) and everything else is between Celemony and the Sonar users.

It looks like Cakewalk just put the text into eZine. May be they have also checked 4 is working in Platinum. Essential 1/2 to Essential 4 upgrade is free for all users, independent either they have got it from CW or other sources. I think it is unlikely Celemony is charging original sellers for that.

Based on the text, people were expecting something CakeWalk specific in that process. Better integration with Sonar (Tempo map) or special upgrade discounts for Sonar users. Melodyne 2 -> 4 has happened unrelated to Cakewalk, Cakewalk just mention that has happened and what is new in this upgrade.

Seems a bit weird that I have an entry for Melodyne in CCC, but that it can't use that to update it. It probably shouldn't be in there at all, in that case.

Presumably, because I've not activated the serial number for version 2, I've not been notified about how to get version 4.

So I'll probably try to register v2, and see what happens. Thanks for the responses.

Personally I hid the Addictive Drum and Melodyne items in the Command Center. All updates for those products are handled directly from the manufacturer. If you have any version of Essential registered with Celemony, log into your account over there for update info.

Wow, Celemony's website is AWFUL. I've not seen a dynamic site so clunky since I was making them in ASP 15 years ago. Luckily, despite it sending me in an infinite loop of 'click this [+] button, then click this link, then click 'back' because you don't have a serial number' it seems to have magically added the new serial number (which I could only see by logging out and back in again), and is showing me a different version of their account/licence management site. Still, it worked in the end, so hopefully this provides some comfort to anybody else who finds themselves clicking little Plus buttons endlessly.

Repeating from another post.  If the CCC is going to list something then it should be able to list the correct version.  Another shortcoming of CCC.
