Ok, opened soft synth session drummer, did sequencer inserted a number of instances of a pattern, set the input to Omni and channel one and the output to drum bus and nothing.  Set the echo to through and nothing.  So, I know I am woefully stupid but I am sure the quick and easy is right inside my brain taking a nap.  Thanks

Did you load a program into Session Drummer? Does Session Drummer a sound when you click on one of the kit pieces?

Are you seeing activity in the meters when you attempt to play the pattern?  Is the drum bus routed to the Master bus (and Master bus routed to your interface?)

Can you get the metronome to play?

didn't load a drum program into it.  This midi stuff- I know that in about a year I will be beyond stupid but wow, without doing the quiet set down six hour learning sequence it has been difficult to understand!  thanks and thanks

Yeah, many synths load with a default sound. The sfz engine synths bundled with SONAR including Session Drummer do not. One thing that can save some time is learning how to use track templates. SONAR comes with a bunch of predefined softsynth track templates including several for Session Drummer. They have all the tracks and synth setup  ready to go. All you need to do is insert the template and add MIDI data.
