Correct X3 is no longer supported. However they will help over the phone.

For a product that is no longer sold nor patched it's perfectly normal, I'd say.

It is normal. But in a better world, the first email requesting support should get a reply explaining why it is futile to send any more emails. That could be pretty much automated. And if the policy is that support for X3 has ended, and that is my interpretation as well, then why would the more expensive telephone support be available?

If it is out of support then CW needs to update this page http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Contact and the product drop down on this page http://www.cakewalk.com/Contact/TechnicalSupport

Oh well that's a pity. Looks like my association with Cakewalk has now expired also.

Not to be pedantic but your X3 association expired in January 2015 when the new version became available. You just didn't know it until now.

You can always consider getting a demo of SONAR to see if the new version solves any problem you are having.

Or even go the cheape$t route and upgrade using the monthly pay plan and really give the "full" version a work out. Then if you like it, pay 11 more months and the product is yours (just like X3 was when you paid your full price).

If Sonar specifically says they offer support for X3 then there is no reason why we should assume otherwise.

What almost certainly will NOT happen is a software fix.

Also not to be pedantic but support for Windows 7 is going to go away. Will you upgrade your OS?
