  • Any Tricks For Keeping The Low End Of A Track Mono?

Hello Everyone,

I have a complex synth bass track with a stereo field on the top which I would like to retain, but I would like to make sure all frequencies maybe 500 Hz and below are mono.

Was wondering what the easiest way to achieve this is.

If it was a flat bass sound, I would use the interleave "mono" button, but can't here.

Thanks!

Put a filter on for 500 and below and bounce to a new track, then change the filter to 500 and up maybe? Would you give a track for each to what you want with. Probably better ways though.

You could use two aux tracks, one with a highpass, one with a low, and process however you like.

Watch out for phase cancellation if you sum to mono. Might need to use channel tools to add delay to either the l or r side if you find you're getting cancellation.

You could check out Mongoose from Boz Millar of Boz Digital for an idea.

I use this free plugin:

Had not heard of that one. Looks very similar in function / purpose. Good find!

Ozone 6 and 7 have a multiband "stereoizer". Let's you narrow or spread individual frequency ranges.

Take any EQ with a mid/side setting (graphic or parametric)... put it on your master bus, pull down the bass frequencies in the side channel, maybe push it up a little in the mid channel to compensate.

Not sure if Sonar comes with such an EQ - I use Fabfilter Pro-Q 2. Voxengo offers a couple of free EQs that allow mid/side adjustments too.

+1 for Ozone Imager module. That way you have control over what bass frequencies are narrowed all the way to mono if you want.
