I am getting an error " a control surface dll is not installed". nothing new was installed, hardware or software. I recorded flawlessly wednesday night and turned sonar on thursday and got thos error. I have tried all previously mentioned fixes in older posts, but with no success. Sonar is dead in the water since it wont let me past this error. Someone please help. I have been on hold with sonar for 1 hour no with no answer and no reply to email support.

Open up the Control Surface applet in Sonar. See what's there.
If you're NOT using a control surface, there should be nothing listed. If there is, delete it.

However, whatever devices you're using need to be turned on before launching Sonar. Best to turn them on before booting the computer, actually.

Use SAFE mode. Hold the SHIFT key while loading a project.

when sonar boots, it stops me before the program loads. I am not able to get to any menus ie load a project. I have tried complete reinstall including editing the registry and deleting anthing related to cakewalk and deleting all shared control surface folders and shared util folders. restart and reload and still the same error. I called cakewalk tech support and followed these directions. nothing. I am dead in the water.

If you have an xboard or dongle-equivalent device that's not plugged in, plug it in and retry. I get a similar error on vst scan if my xboards not plugged in. I also unchecked scan at start. HTH

i have tried once again a clean reinstall by editing the registry uninstalling sonar deleting all shared folders and the reboot and reinstall...still the same message " a control surface dll is not installed". I check the shared contol surface folder and all is there. I even tried reregistering all the dll's individually to no avail. please, someone has got to have an answer to this problem. Cakewalk support had no insight and I have yet to get a reply to my support email.. I am still dead in the water. sonar will not boot past the opening to the error. i cant even tell it which surface to use.

have you try, directly open a project instead of launching
sonar with the icon.

Try renaming your controller dll in the "Shared Surfaces" to something like xxxx.dll.bak or moving it out to somewhere else completely, and then try to start Sonar. If you can get it started uninstall your controller, rename or replace the dll to it's proper name/place and then reinstall your control surface again.

is there a "safe mode" start upon opening sonar?
