  • Can I ask? Those using TASCAM US series (I'm using US-1200)

These are USB 2.0 and have ASIO, but they only have choices for *LOWEST LATENCY, LOW LATENCY, NORMAL LATENCY, HIGH LATENCY, HIGHEST LATENCY* .  I was wondering if anyone found any corresponding literature and/or discovered anything about about problems etc with these settings.  I just finished a piece with 12 tracks of VSTS and had to use *normal latency* for it to play back correctly, then bounced everything.  Also, I noticed that it didn't play well at all with pro tools  (not that this matters to anyone here.)  Has anyone discovered what these settings mean in real terms?

Look at the bottom of the Preferences > Audio > Driver Settings for the values reported to SONAR from the Tascam driver or use the CEntrance latency test utility to measure it for yourself.

So doing that I get *normal latency* as 4.4 ms 192 samples. Is this good?

Quite good! If only Tascam would get off their a$$e$ and provide Win10 drivers for the US-NxN series...

There are three values in the ASIO section. If that is total round trip latency that is very good. If that is either the input or output latency it is still pretty good. Anything under 10 ms total round trip should work in most cases.

Oh, no.  Thanks scook.  I read it wrong.  It's 13 ms roundtrip on its lowest setting.  But it's fine for me.  Thanks for the lesson.

Tascam released new drivers  for the us1641 (not sure about yours)  last December. This was a welcome improvment that gave new life to an old device. I think it was pretty darn nice of them to do this when they could have just as easily forced us to upgrade to a new interface. So mine is now performing on par with any modern interface in the lower price range. The original drivers when I bought it were terrible.
I only paid $300 and have used to to record dozens of full band sessions. I have certainly gotten my moneys worth out of it and I expect to continue using it for many years yet to come.
