So here is my challange. I have a band and I record all the raw live tracks off from an X32 and then have a project file that is a few hours long. When we go back and listen and have a good song that we want to keep from that night, I would like to have some way to mark the in and out point and then save all those raw tracks as well as all the project information including EQ and FX assigments and such as a new project which only has that 3-8 minutes of time in it.
 
I cannot seem to find a good workflow for this and am hoping someone else has climbed that mountain.

Copy the file (for safety), open the copy up and delete the songs by selecting the areas that you DON'T want selecting "delete hole" as you wipe sections. The delete hole will butt the rightmost stuff against the leftmost stuff. Crossfade as needed.
 
That said ,I would mix the whole thing sucky songs and all and hack the resulting 2 track export instead. In Sonar using the same method after importing the export into another file.
 

I do this a lot.

What I do is open the main project with all the original tracks. I set a marker before and after the first song. Select all tracks and use S to split at both markers. Select all and click between the markers in the time ruler and bounce to clips.. This enables you to copy short files only. Select all and Control+C.

Paste into a new project.

When it comes time for song two, I copy the song-one project and rename the files. Then, I open the project and delete all audio. I go into the project folder... audio folder and delete all files.

Lastly, repeat the steps above to copy the audio for song two. The benefit of this is that you move forward with all effects and settings you choose for song one. When I'm done I have a different folder for each song which contains the original tracks and I can delete the original project.

Thanks GSWIZ....that is pretty much what I am doing now. I was hoping someone was going to tell me that you could just do the markers and then export between the markers.
 
It SHOULD be that simple. Just it SHOULD be that simple to Mix down or export between the markers....since you can punch with em, it seems logical.
 
In a world of digital mixers and everyone who can play their stuff well is recording all the time, this workflow could stand to be prioritized by Calkwalk..
 

You can do this already.
 
Start by selecting All (ctrl + a)
Then open your Markers view (Alt + Shift + 4)
Then just select the FIRST marker and you'll see the entire range between the first & next marker is highlighted, all ready for editing

Cool - didn't know that. Strangely, using the Markers Module to navigate to a section of the song doesn't select the following section. You can also select multiple markers in the Markers view, which is very handy.
I set a "start" and "end" marker in addition to the usual verse, chorus etc ones. To export, I select all tracks (control-A or double-click on a track number), choose the start marker, click "Set From=Now" in the select module, repeat for the end marker and click "Set Thru=Now", then export. But maybe using the Markers view is quicker.
