I'm making this song where I've constructed a drum beat that basically loops continuously throughout the entire project. However, I want the rest of the audio to go forward while the drum beat stays looped. Is there a way for me to achieve this recording on top of a loop? If so, what do I do?

Hi. If you do not want to copy the beat throughout the song, I think you could use the matrix view, and set to loop.
Edit: Just drag and drop in MV.
All the best.

Would I be able to do this without a mouse? If so, how would I do it with keyboard shortcuts?

You need a mouse (or at least a touchscreen) to operate Sonar.

As for looping the drum beat just turn it into a Groove Clip and drag it out as long as you want in the Track View's Clips Pane. Once you do that you can disable the Loop function on the timeline (the yellow indicators on the timeline).

That is of course if I am understanding your problem correctly. If not I need more details.

Cheers.

I am not sure if you mean copying the beat (You might have to click on "the next" insert place, but it is just mark beat Ctrl +C (for copy) and Ctrl +V (for paste) where you want it)
Or the Matrix View (shortcut Alt +5), and copy the beat you made into one of the cells.
Hope it helps.
All the best.

I've tried the Matrix view, and it doesn't seem to work the way I want it to. I seem to have a problem after importing the file. It puts more measures than what the beat is. By the way, how do I turn the beat I made into a groove clip?

Select the clip and hit "Ctrl L" on your keyboard. Then you can drag it out as long as you want.

Cheers.

Edit: Okay... I am sorry. I don't know if that's how it works in Sonar 8.5. Maybe select the clip and Right Click (if you can) and see if there are groove clip options.

I don't own 8.5 and shoudl probably stop talking. lol
