Is there a certain patch that does it,  or is it just any patch?

It happens when I browse  any sound, drums, brass, whatever. And the sample sizes are really low, like 2-3mb.

Ok.  You got me.  I'm not having any problems at all.  I'm running Windows 8.1 64 bit with the latest version of Sonar Platinum and Dimension Pro.

What happens if you leave Sonar down for a moment, and try to run Dim Pro in stand alone mode and work through some different patches.  Does it work OK that way?

And, is it possible the disk drive you have Dim Pro sample content on might be one of those 'green' drives?  For some reason, sometimes these seem to confuse Sonar.

And, you might check the Windows Event Viewer, when a crash occurs, to see if something is being reported there.

Lastly, what sample rate is Dim Pro set to use, and what sample rate is your project using?  There are some micro-host hot keys for both Rapture and Dim Pro, that can adjust the sample rate, and you might want to make sure those are in sync.  I don't know if that would cause it to fail, I just always have made mine the same.

Hi Bob,

I have no Dim Pro crashes in standalone mode, though I rarely ever use it that way. Samples are stored on SSD as everything else related to Sonar. Nothing in Event Viewer or Task Manager. I have never set myself a sample rate in Dim Pro, there must be factory setting I don't know how to check, "Plugin Properties" do not include it. Just have another crash, playing midi through a factory drum patch , grrrrr.

I feel your pain. I don't use Dim Pro anymore on my main PC, because I cannot get it stable on my system. Admittedly, I never used it much anyway -- I have enough other libraries that it Dim Pro tended to be a last resort -- but over the past couple of years, I just could not get it to run for more than 10 or 15 minutes before it would crash and usually take Sonar with it. This happened regardless of what patch I had loaded, and on different computers.

At least twice I've done a full, clean reinstall of Windows and reloaded all my audio software onto a new hard drive and PC, and I have always hoped that would get Dim Pro to start behaving. But even with a pristine install on a new computer, Dim Pro still doesn't want to work for me. I dunno why. Maybe its just me. Other folks seem to do okay with it. I've tried to resolve the issue, but I've yet to have any success, and I've basically stopped using Dim Pro at all.

Here are the Micro Host hot keys for Dimension Pro:

And if I recall how I did it, I ran Dim Pro in stand-alone mode and changed the Sample Rate there to match what I use in Sonar, and then it was picked up that way when I later inserted Dim Pro into a project in Sonar.

Thanks Bob. I guess it depends on a day. Yesterday it was nightmare, today only 3 crashes and last one more than hour ago. Perhaps F3 key like you suggested helped too.

Maybe - you would use F3 to set it to a sample rate of 44100.  Is that what you have the audio interface sample rate, and the sample rate in Sonar, set to?

Yes, 44.1 kHz, I do not believe in a myth of higher sample rate benefits (and 48kHz for video). Yesterday was a better day. Dim Pro behaved better even before I used a F3 key, obviously it might have been set to 44.1 all a long, I can't tell. It is a moody synth, like my guitars, on a bad day they get out of tune every three minutes.
