I have a copy of the song before save.
 
@Beep: I was able to bounce my midi drum track using the browser. - that's handy.
I imported my midi track but cannot drive the frozen synth with it. While I know (think) I can delete the synth
and reinsert it but I modified the patch with some custom .wavs and didn't save it so i'd much rather unfreeze the synth
if still possible some way.

I was all set to call tech support (Mother of all eastern storms or not) when I hit on an idea.
 
I looked in the track manager and the source midi tracks for the 2 frozen synths were hidden. I expect that is how it's supposed to be when you freeze a synth. Anyway after un-hiding those two midi tracks and verifying that modifications to them would not affect the synth playback, I tried clicking the unfreeze button and this time and for the very first time after who knows how many vain attempts I must have tried, the button depressed un-lit and the synths both thawed. Modifications to the midi source files now affect the synth playback again.

I assumed since you weren't seeing the MIDI that they were Instrument tracks. I'll have to check out whether hidden MIDI tracks prevent unfreezing; that's a new one on me. But separate MIDI tracks don't become hidden automatically when you freeze; I think you must have done that and forgotten.
 
Glad you got it figured in any case.

Did a quick test. Unfreezing a synth track with the MIDI track hidden was no problem, and the MIDI track became automatically unhidden. So I'm not sure how your project got into that state.

No they weren't instrument tracks. 
When I insert the synth I select "create midi source track" old school way.
