• SONAR
  • Melodyne 2 and 4 coexisting in Sonar?

Since Essential 4 will be included in Sonar Platinum 2016, and some of us already own Melodyne Editor 2, does anyone know if both Melodyne Essential v4 and Melodyne Editor v2 can both coexist in Sonar (or any DAW)?  I am on the fence about updating to Editor v4 as the version 2 is sufficient for me right now.  I posted this question down in the Software subforum, but it was suggested that I post it up here as well since this relates to Sonar Platinum's forthcoming inclusion of Melodyne Essential 4.  So specifically here are my two questions:

1.  Can Melodyne v2 Editor and v4 Essential both exist and work in Sonar Platinum?  I would not want to install Essential v4 and find out that it removed v2 Editor.

2.  Will we be able to choose not to install Essential v4 and just keep our current versions of Melodyne (v2)?

Thanks for posting. I have the same concern, but I believe you can opt out of installing Melodyne Essential 4. We'll see.

I'm just wondering...was there a version 3 or did it jump from Editor 2 to Editor 4 like Windows jumped from 8 to 10?

There was actually a product called Melodyne 3 a good decade ago. And then they sort of changed the naming scheme and it was just called Melodyne. Then there were version numbers of that which eventually got up to 2.1.something, and now this new version. So I assume they're trying to avoid confusion with the version of 3 that's even older than the version we currently think of as 2.

I realise this explanation may not have helped much.

I've just watched a couple of videos on the new Melodyne tempo detection, which if it works as well as it looks like it does, is astounding. Extracts tempo information from even music with barely any transients. Remarkable stuff.

I just installed and tried out Melodyne 4 in Sonar. Seems to work just fine. I've only put about 5 minutes into it so far, but it seems OK. I'll be sure to post if I run into anything.

I'm thinking of going with Melodyne Studio since the upgrade is only $49 dollars more than the $99 for the Editor 2 upgrade, if I understand it correctly...

I installed the Studio 30 day free trial. So far so good.

I just downloaded the trial for Melodyne 4, and it does overwrite Melodyne 2 (can see the "updating Melodyne 2.xxx to Melodyne 4.xxx"). The code is identical for all flavors (Essential, Assistant, Editor, Studio), so I can only assume that Melodyne 4 Essential will overwrite Melodyne 2 Editor.

The demo itself has an issue with activation, as it goes to a web page for "trial" but remained in "Media Player" mode (i.e. opens to look like Melodyne Studio, but cannot edit anything).

I just sent an email to Celemony on both issues above and will let you know feedback I get. As of right now, I have a non-functioning trial and total loss of Melodyne 2 Editor.

Thanks for this.

So the question still would be if we can choose not to install the free version (Essential v4) that will come with Sonar, and just keep Editor v2 that I already have.
