• SONAR
  • Melodyne 2 and 4 coexisting in Sonar? (p.2)

You can; Melodyne's a separate item in the CCC. I've never installed it since the monthly updates started, as I already had Editor installed from the X3 era.

In the interim I did a system restore to yesterday and Editor 2 came back online without issue.

Can Melodyne v2 Editor and v4 Essential both exist and work in Sonar Platinum?  I would not want to install Essential v4 and find out that it removed v2 Editor.

Celemony did their work right and the v4 does replace the v2 flawlessly. The v4 will load all your v2 settings and haven't found a single reason to go back to v2. Everything is better, the analysis, speed, stability, sound quality, etc.
Melodyne editor v4 is a life improvement, period :-)

I just fired up Melodyne Essentials on a region and it suggested I upgrade to the free Melodyne 4.

I closed down Sonar, uninstalled the two programs that had Melodyne in their names, downloaded the update and installed it.  When I then started Sonar, it hangs during the plugin scan on Melodyne vst3.  There was no vst3 in the Melodyne 4 download, only vst2.  So my Sonar is broken.

I'll post more once I figure out what has to be done to fix this.  I'll start by reinstalling Melodyne 2 from my Cakewalk account.

Try 2 :  Uninstalled M4, installed M2 and got a runtime error at some point during the installation but ignored and the installation finished.  Started Sonar, the plugin scan completes, then Sonar hangs forever...

Try 3 : Tried to uninstall M2, uninstall fails on "Melodyne singletrack"... rebooted, same problem.

Try 4 :  Hoovered the registry of everything Celomony or Melodyne (gods I hate doing that but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as GR4), removed all files and folders I could find, rebooted and Melodyne singletrack is gone from Programs and Features list.  Now Sonar launches ok, but of course Melodyne is absent from the Region FX list.  Not sure I want to try and reinstall, but what choice do I have...

Try 5 :  Figured, what the heck, might as well try to reinstall M2 through CCC.  I start CCC and get a 'new CCC version available' message.  Accept the update and the installation of the new CCC fails.  I exit that, click my CCC icon, and that fails...

[here goes my evening]

Try 6 :  Uninstalled  CCC 1.1.2.2, installed CCC 1.1.3.1  - that works but Melodyne Essential still shows a green light.
Reinstall ME2 through CCC.  Sonar loads, Melodyne shows up in the Region FX.  I define a region, Melodyne askes to be activated, I give it my serial number and that fails on a "licenceProduct/VersionNotAcceptableByClient"

Try 7 : Close Sonar, reinstall M4 without first uninstalling M2.  That goes through, Sonars starts, I define a region, activate Melodyne and now Melodyne is all in French (I was never offered a choice and it was in English before, as is all my music software).

TRY 8 :    Preferences in Melodyne Region FX menus has no languages option.  However, after some surfing I discover that the vst plugin does and I could change it to English.  I then closed and reopened the Region FX and it's now in English as well.

The moral of this story :  Save yourself a lot of trouble and do not uninstall Melodyne Essentials 2 before updating to ME4.

I'm thinking of going with Melodyne Studio since the upgrade is only $49 dollars more than the $99 for the Editor 2 upgrade, if I understand it correctly...

I'm very tempted by that. The Studio-only sound editor feature is really unique and very interesting.

Hey Paul, can you try a system restore (I hope you save them) to a point yesterday or prior? Your system should have actually saved one during the Melodyne 4 installation (2 processes), but I used the restore point prior to that one. System came back up to "where it was" after that reboot.

Thanks mettelus, but I have system restore turned off.  I never took the time to learn how it worked and can't quite believe it can roll back correctly without doing an image of the OS partition (and I doubt it does that).  Anyway I made it through in the end.  I'm now updated and weary.

Audiodeluxe has the upgrade for $126 (go all the way through to checkout) - even better!

I just installed and tried out Melodyne 4 in Sonar. Seems to work just fine. I've only put about 5 minutes into it so far, but it seems OK. I'll be sure to post if I run into anything.

Do you know if you can import the tempo map that Melodyne 4 can create into the Sonar tempo map? Like Studio One can?:

After using the demo for a day, liked what I saw/heard and bought the upgrade from Editor to Studio 4.
