  • [Solved] How to create new audio track already set with output to Master?

Every time I create new audio track or instrument track, it appears with output preset to some out on my audio interface, and I have to manually set it to Master every time. It gets frustrating over time as I forget and my software synths would not play, and then I realize- I forgot to set output to Master. My friend has similar set up and when he creates new track, it already set to Master on output. How do I make my tracks to be set to master by default? Thank you.

Right click your Master buss and select "Set as Default", or something very similar to that.

Yeah, that worked! Thank you! All the years of setting output every time, and it was so easy... Thanks.

I'm having a similar problem with track templates. If I save a track template with my output to a certain buss, it always comes back to the default buss when I reload it. It also drops the template into the bottom of my tracks, and opens up the pro-channel strip. I wish when you saved a track template, that everything would come back the way you saved it. Am I doing something wrong or should this be a feature request?

To have a track template recall outputs to buses the buses must be saved with the template. When loading, the template will use the buses if they already exists or create them if they do not exist.

That's not happening in my case. The busses are there. I save the template and the wrong bus re-inserts itself when reloading.

Which version of SONAR are you using?

There's nothing in Sonar Help on these details (at least not under "Track templates").  Are you saying that if you save the buses with the template, that on inserting the template into a project, the (same) buses already in the project will be used and not new ones from the the template ?  The ones in the template are just placekeepers ?  Or are they not even in the template,  but just their id ?  What about settings in those buses ?

Remember, these are track templates. The influence they have over buses depends on what else is going on in the project. Suppose you create a track template that references "Bus A" and "Bus B."

  • If you load that template into a project that already has a Bus A and Bus B, then its sends will go to Bus A and Bus B, as assigned. Bus A and B will not have their parameters changed because presumably, their prior existence means they are already fulfilling some function that should not be automatically overwritten.
  • If you load that template into a project that has no Bus A or Bus B, then the existence of those sends will cause the project to create a Bus A and Bus B. These buses will have any FX, level and pan settings, etc. as when the track template was saved.

Thanks Craig.  That's very clear and makes sense, as does what Steve said upon rereading.

In both the manual and Help, it says that bus sends will be saved in the template, but it doesn't say that you have to select the bus/es prior to "Save as Track Template" for this to work.
