  • Win 10 - Why Leave Win 7? (p.15)

John
I've been running 10 since before it was released. I have not had a problem. When I found a way to use my gear with it I loaded it on my main machine.

I wouldn't put a lot of faith in reports that are not the norm.  Right here on this forum there are many that have Windows 10 and are happy with it. Those that don't like it haven't said so because it wont work. They just don't like it. That is their right.

You are absolutely correct that you need very specific information.

And I am not helping you with your need.
.

Then that's just some random comment that means nothing at all. I'm not stupid enough to take it seriously.

This happens to be a very interesting thread so far fella's …

Since I only have one machine that is upgradeable , I'm gonna have to take my cue from a lesson I learned long ago on the bandstand

When in doubt ,  Sit it out ….

I've been told this a few times when I didn't heed that advice  I'ts OK kid …you did the best you could …come back when you are ready and know the changes….

John, It's not just that we don't like it. We are trying to be helpful. A whole lot of headaches can be avoided by resisting the urge to jump on the bandwagon. Microsoft has us conditioned to do that every three years or so. well, this time, a lot of folks know better.

and REAPER, it is still supporting XP,

Most drivers aren't though.

No, that is correct, but for those people who remain on XP, they are likely also remaining on the same hardware, therefore it's a non issue, as they have all the driver support they need.

I only mention REAPER still supporting XP, because if while sitting it out on Windows 7, if Sonar started bugging out due to support for Windows 7 being dropped, it wouldn't be a major issue, as my other favorite DAW would continue for quite some years to come. Although Sonar would likely continue to work for an undefined period, and one could also just sit on the last supported iteration. So no issue really.

I would suggest that you are saying my comment is incorrect by changing the goalposts afterwards. You say the latest Reaper supports XP and I'm saying the latest drivers aren't supporting XP

You also think that if Sonar drops say windows 7, you only need to stick with the last version of Sonar and that will be fine...

Well hopefully... But if the libraries get updated on the OS via Windows update or whatever it may break Sonar and then you would not be happy.

So once you are out of support, if you plan on contining on using a machine it's probably best not to install any more software whatsoever other than security updates.

I would suggest though it's best to upgrade of course. For me if a person insists on using a machine on the internet that's not receiving security updates, that's just darn right irresponsible to you and other people. Take it off the internet if you want to keep it. Just don't install any software at all, and you should be fine.

Cheers..

I don't believe any goal posts were changed.

I think staying on the last supported version would workout fine, I never update after a service pack anyway (I did for the 3 I downgraded to Windows 10 though), so my 2 music PC's will remain at Win 7 SP1, so libraries  changes isn't an issue, and I have no security concerns, actually, see my user name, that is my initials and year of birth,  "irresponsible" is actually my middle name

Well good luck with that ;) Hope you don't give your friends viruses. Please don't send me any emails or documents...

Let's hope no C++ library errors come your way soon...

Each to their own :)

I find it ironic that people think by not updating their machine it will remain fast and stable, when in actuality it's entirely the oppsite...

Unless you keep off the internet and never update Sonar and install plugins or any other software..

Sorry :)
