My guess is that Cakewalk will support Windows 7 at least through 2016. Windows 8 was a bust, and thus, not that many users on it.

You can count on it. Win8.x will be longer. It was hardly a bust btw, it was pretty successful in the end. Some bloggers and jounos would have you believe otherwise of course. Same people who are probably complaining about Win 10.

My Dell business rep has only sold THREE WIN 8 MACHINES in the years Win 8 has been out. THREE! Otherwise it has been Windows 7. If not for it being on new equipment, and users had the choice of actually buying it, Windows 8 would go down as the most epic bust EVER.

I run an IT shop, and I can't find too many people who "LOVE" or even "REALLY LIKE" Windows 8 because of the workflow (read: lack of a start menu). Of course 8 and 10 have performance advantages, but the general population hated it because of the workflow that was thrust on them.

Not sure what planet you've been living on, Dok, but Windows 8 was so poorly received that market watchers were actually talking about the end of the PC, as sales plummeted. The fact that you and a few others like it does not change reality. I don't understand the mentality that says, "Hey, I like this, everyone else should to! and if they don't, they're all part of a blog-conspiracy."

Check the pie chart. Don't forget there are two versions of windows 8 to accommodate for here (two slices of pie).. Windows 7 is by far dominant of course, but if you compare Win8.x with all the other OS's hardly a disaster.

Maybe Vista was.

Yeah, in my book Vista and Windows 8/8.1 were flops, but in the end Vista was tolerable and even OK with me. It looks like Windows 10 will be a good OS in general and as a host for a DAW, but Microsoft better fix the Activation issues with some quickness or it will end up being a flop for a while, until they get it right.

I must admit I'm a Cakewalk fan and a Windows fan, so I do want Windows 10 to be a hit, especially since Microsoft is showing some attention to the music production community and trying to improve the new OS for DAW work and performance.

Sounds like our IT guy (computer dept.) who we have large account with Dell.  They don't want to learn anything new. Could be benefit to company but its not their company and they are satisfied with old tech cause they know it.  Ran IT also for over 45 years.  Users hate change.  There is a start menu and geez what was there before that a c: prompt but people got it.  Roll with the technology or it will roll over you.  Had to hire to support the largest tour travel company in U.S. Then after a decade write again.  Millions of lines of code.  Then the Users complained about learning something new.  The new ones learned it and loved it.  Always going to have dinosaurs who are narrow minded.   Tech is going to change faster then ever,  usually for the better.  Lets see if win 10 is a bomb, but first take the time to learn and understand it.

Actually it is hilarious. I remember win 95 coming out and users complaining about the new start menu. Huge arguments they wanted program manager back. They were not interested at all in doing a couple of hours of training. I suspect those same users are the ones complaining about start screens now. Oh the irony.

Well I have gone from an avid hater, um, dis-liker, to be slowly becoming comfortable with Windows 10, I have the aesthetic problem under control, not perfect, but good enough for now, it takes that bright white everywhere away, marvelous the difference a splash of colour makes. And it seems from info on the Windows Insider site, that MS will be adding more colour options/customization available in the near future. Pretty much was my only issue, well apart from thinking my Delta 1010's wouldn't work, but that's all good. Give it a few more days or a week giving everything a thorough work out, and if all is still good, I guess I'll be 100% Windows 10, who'd have thought, certainly not me
