As far as I can tell nobody is pointing a gun to my head and telling me I have to upgrade to W 10 and I simply won't do it at this moment in time .
Even though my i3 seems under spec to run the newest version of SONAR .I'm being very cautious since It took me the better part of a year and change just to get my W 8 lap top configured to run X3 .
A lot of guys on this forum took the time to help me sort things out and I'm grateful to them .

Now that things have been running smoothly , I just want to use and Enjoy the tools I have to make music at this point in time …..

You know the funny thing is I'm not a hater and I think I may actually enjoy W 10 …
I may end up biting the bullet at some point in the upcoming months when the funds permit and get myself a much higher spec computer ….once I do that I will give 10 a try

Will I see less bugs in Sonar if I upgrade to Win 10?

The killer features for me were:
  • uncontrollable Windows update

Just curious... do you have Windows 7 Home or Windows 7 Pro?

If you have Pro, those updates are not uncontrollable. That's only for the Home users.

I think @stickman393 may have been referring to the baked-in Windows 10 automatic updating, which apparently requires some user intervention to disable, such as killing a running service process or editing the registry or unplugging the LAN cable...  ...not sure which.

Yeah, I'm not sure what's being sent back to the mothership but the new OS license model is certainly gathering and reporting various system data to "improve the user experience".  I'd kinda like to see how that plays out for a while.

I am not easily enticed with "new" (and potentially flawed). So many software developers let their users beta test their software (for free). Nothing about Win10 will drastically "change my world" for the better, and I have already read posts of people who have had theirs changed for the worse. If all is running smooth on Win7, there is no "need" to update. I have yet to see any post of "Oh my gosh, look at all I have been missing!!"

Do not feel obliged, coerced, etc., to change something that already works for you. Win10 will be around for a LONG time to come (and the beta testers can suffer your pain so you won't have to).

Agree with stickman393. A good condensation of how I feel so far on my Laptop upgrade, although I'm happy to stick it out and see if the experience improves over time.

Only reason I can think of to upgrade from Win 7 for music is if you think you can take advantage of a multipoint touch screens.

My studio computer is on win 7 and sonar runs perfectly, so I see no advantage in upgrading. I have another pc that was on win 8, and I could not wait to upgrade it! It is now on win 10 pro. I share all of stickman's concerns, and windows updates most definitely can't be turned off without disabling specific services no matter whether you run Pro or Home.

I'll write it another way...

Those upgrading within the free period take your time.

To those not upgrading within the free period...
When Cakewalk drops support of Win7 or Win8 for Sonar, because the latest Microsoft libraries force them to do so, much like when they had to drop Vista support, don't say I didn't warn you! Also please don't expect the wait for that to happen to be as long as Vista had.

Not only that your drivers and plugins suppliers will also be forgetting about these OS's.

Yup people are still running unsupported Vista (getting increasingly difficult I suspect) but we can't guarantee this scenario in future.

It's gonna be a few years at least, but this may happen sooner that you think (not like it was in the past).

Cheers..
