I waited four days trying to get it to Activate, during this time I tried to get it to Activate by Going to Settings and clicking the Activate button or allowing it to Activate automatically, and it never Activated during that time, so I figured maybe something went wrong with the installation, and I went back to Windows 7 and started over 3 or 4 times.

I suspect you booted off the installation media rather than run setup within windows 7/8.

The other gotcha is whilst you updating, it reboots and you boot off the installation media. So make sure you turn it off your BIOS so does not boot if USB/DVD as well.

Do that and you will get a product key on Windows 10. After that you can boot off the DVD after that to do a fully clean install if you want.

If you have don't have a product key do one of the following:

1) Restore from backup
2) Roll back.
3) Install win7/8.

Then do it again. Turn off those settings in BIOS and make sure you run setup from within 7/8. Do not boot from USB/DVD!!

I updated to Windows 10 around two weeks ago, then about 2 days later rolled back to Win7 64 without any issues.

While I really liked a lot of aspects of Windows 10 (Cortana, minimalist and flat windows, Edge, native FLAC, etc), I felt the release was too premature, especially if  your system now is 100% rock solid.

A couple things made me roll back:
1) Only a handful of preset colors available for the Start Menu with no customization.
2) Lack of native Aero Glass theme.  I really like having transparent windows, and while the solid and minimilist thing is nice, I really prefer the transparency.  I also feel like it can affect my workflow and mindset when it comes to creativity.
3) I want to update when I want, and what I want.
4) Some GPUs are experiencing high idle temps.  This is a big issue, and one of the main reasons I rolled back.
5) Privacy conerns.  Do I really want to sign in LIVE to get Cortana to follow my voice commands?  Do I really want location services and targeted ads?  Sometimes I prefer all of these things OFF.
6) While it'll probably be fine, I don't feel comfortable with not having certified Win 10 audio drivers for my I/O by the manufacturer (Tascam).

Some comments here...

2) I suggest you get over that one. It slows down the performance of your PC anyway.
Otherwise check this: http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/aero-glass-windows-10/ (not sure how to do it yet, if indeed it is available).

3) Totally agree about when, I'm not understanding about the what,  what you are getting windows 10.

4) Maybe look for a firmware update. Check you power saving settings. Your issue or it somebody telling you it is an issue?

5) You can turn all of that off when you install windows 10

6) Would not worry about that at all.

I'm not running my DAW on it either (no way! not until next year), but my other PC's have it.

2) Eventually maybe.  But having plently of VSTs popping up with solid colors doesn't strike my fancy.  I'll gladly take the minimal performance hit.  Comps these days are more than capable now.

4) I'm experiencing this very issue.  So are other people over on the Nvidia forum.  A future update will probably fix this but right now it's not worth having on my system.

Finally got Windows 10 Activated. Microsoft gave me a Product Key for it. Bless their hearts. :)

Now, I can do the clean install. :)

Shenrei, I agree with you about the aero glass. While some don't see this as important, many do, including me. It may just be psychological, the artists mentality; but it is real, at least for some of us. The gorgeous landscapes in Windows, with the aero view, can really set the mood for me. But you need to have a powerful computer to run it and do music.
The privacy concerns are the real problem, as you have discovered. I think in time, there will be more and more outrage, as the extent of this invasion of personal space is realized. For now, the advent of a new windows OS is just too much for those "types" who just have to have the latest stuff. (See Kevinwal's post above to see which "type" you fit into. Sorry Kev, just couldn't resist the sarcasm).

Of course you can't turn off the NSA, but then again nor can you with previous versions of Windows.

When I first upgraded it seemed to be slower but after a couple of reboots it got faster somehow. . .

I'm glad I seen this, I thought I was imagining things, as that was my experience as well. At first on my 2 laptops and test machine I was wondering what everyone was going on about, because as far as I was concerned it wasn't noticeably faster at booting (or anything else) in fact I thought it to be slower. With the first of my main music PC's it wasn't as noticeable (more power I guess) but the same thing.

Now the boot time and general snappiness is obviously apparent.

Keep in mind some of us have had it longer due to the preview.

No worries, Michael. I actually agree with you about the aero glass being gone. I argued with a guy from Ms on another forum about that and don't see any reason why the design police shouldn't let people set up their systems any way they want to.
