We shouldn't be looking for trouble where there is none. It works well on just about any gear you throw at it. No hoops to go through. No angst to bother you. Its a fine OS that will work on your system with your gear.

With respect disagree esp with

> It works well on just about any gear you throw at it.

MS have done beta programmes for ages now, this one however is more open and has been marketed to the masses. May have been tested on more machines but there are only so many developers to fix issues. It may help to get their priorities better lined up however.

What I'm seeing here after release is really no different to what happened after Windows 2000, XP,Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 etc. It's business as usual other than a lot more people are migrating all at once. A few apps won't work, many drivers won't work. For most it will work however, hence many people are under the impression it will always work perfectly for somebody else, when the answer is not necessarily at all. There is a large amount of traffic complaining about driver incompatibility on the internet. The muddle generally sorts itself out after six months. Right now for me it's impossible to run Win10 on DAW installations because of driver issues but that will hopefully get fixed soonish. Not complaining, I will wait.

However if people don't upgrade within the free period they are throwing away future support of Windows, Sonar, plugins and drivers. If they are happy with that I hope they don't come here and complain when it happens now or in future.

Cheers...

Like the Koch brothers behind the scenes on Fox, it seems Cakewalk is much too eager to jump on the Win10 bandwagon.  Sonar should support operating systems just as long as MS does, as in support Win7 until 2020, or until I build a new machine and am forced to upgrade.  Remember, it is all about me.

I smell the Illuminati at play here.

Microsoft is not your friend.  How can I buy a complete laptop for $180 when the OS costs me $100?  Answer:  To punish people who build their own systems (me), and force them into a Dell or whatever.   That is why their nickname is Microshaft.  I don't see anyone here discussing the totally amazing things they can already do with Sonar on whatever OS you are using.  Its like a totally beautiful woman, she's a 10 or 11.  Yeah, she could do with a few tweaks, wee longer legs, bit of a lift here or there, but damn man, she's fantastic like she is.  Same with Sonar.  I could absolutely care less about "free" or $200 down the line.  It just doesn't matter.  Better threading?  C'mon!  Even with my currently way-less-than-ideal system, I have never run out oomph to get things done.  I love Sonar.  I love Cakewalk.  I don't trust Microsoft.

Sincerely,
Mister Paranoid

My desktop was built by me and I have no trouble installing Windows 10 on it, Mister Paranoid.

Support for 7 ends in 2020. Most everyone will be getting new hardware between now and 2020. So if your Windows 7 system does everything you want it to DAW-wise, and it is not struggling at all, you are probably better standing pat because there COULD be compatibility with your hardware/audio interface or. Low chance of that happening, but still.

I have 10 on my media box and it works well so far. But I have my DAW setup just the way I like it with Windows 7. and I'm not near max-ing out the resources. So until I need hardware that can keep up, I'm standing pat on Windows 7 because I just don't need to spend the time re-doing everything (because Daddy likes the Nuke and Pave).

YMMV!

MS libraries however may withdraw support meaning new software and updates will cease. That could mean Sonar stops development on this platform much earlier than you will expect. Security upgrades will continue however and you will be able to stick with what you have.

True. If I need to change, I will. But I don't think that will happen for at least year or two. So there is no rush.

Well you will be paying for Win10 in approx 11 months... I agree don't rush into it but there is a time span.
Cheers.

Mr. Paranoid says:

True:  you can upgrade an existing home-built machine to W10 for free
False:  you will have to buy W10 on your replacement machine.
