Its Apple that resembles big brother not Microsoft. Only their approved software is allowed to run on their approved hardware. However, they are the ones that scream big brother about IBM and Microsoft. Its the big lie that for some reason people believe.

So true but MS seems to do a better job as pissing people off.  Rumor has it before W8 came out MS execs ignored that it wouldn't go over well.

I kinda agree with you. Much is due to perception not reality. Large corporations are never the best at public relations. MS did nothing to counter the smear campaign waged by Apple some years back.

According to Apple and the popular press Apple invented MP3s, streaming music the portable MP3 player, Cell Phones. Tablets and the computer. At present they are the largest corporation on Earth. Yet they are never attacked by anyone. Everyone wants an Apple product.

MS gives away an OS that cost them millions to developed and all we hear is how bad MS is. We know there has to be a catch here somewhere. Don't we?

The start menu in Windows 10 is growing on me. I like it. I have things organized to my liking and it just works well. I did like the start menu in 8.1 but it wasn't as quick to get to things as 10's is.

I assume the OP hasn't seen our article covering the advantages of Windows 10

I had not seen it, but having just now read it, many of my wonderments have been addressed.  Thank you for the link!

Lots of other very helpful posts in here as well.  Thanks to all!

All people want is something that works good. Doesn't matter if it's Apple, Microsoft, Google or whatever. Apple proves they are willing to pay for it. I don't think Apple ever claimed they invented anything. They try to sell their version. I'd be happy with Microsoft if it wasn't so fussy. Since getting a MBP a year and a half ago and using it as a desktop I haven't thought about configuring things once to make it work. I haven't thought once about drivers. Or virus protection. Don't need a word processing app etc. I like Microsoft. And root for them. But it's been easier in a "closed big brother" system, which to me hadn't felt closed and I haven't worried about my data with them.

I upgraded my laptop from 7 to 10 yesterday. Text characters are now blurry. A search on the net shows this to be a major problem experienced by many. No solutions seem to be available and MSoft aren't fessing up. There's no way I'm going to risk upgrading my desktop DAW until this is fixed; it would be a disaster for the small detail in Sonar and audio apps etc.

I always love when people get highly offended because no one accepts that a new OS is worth updating to.  There are two rules that should always be followed when updating to a new OS.
  1. Make sure that your drivers exist
  2. And make sure you've waited long enough for all the serious bugs have been worked out before you update a system that is attached to your daily workflow.  (a home system that you play around on is fine, but if you have projects that are on deadline you had better be sure that the system is going to meet with no serious hangups or you will lose clients and work) Ive seen it happen to people)  Its not a pretty site.

I upgraded from a perfectly functioning Windows 7 to 10 because it was free, reports were that Sonar might perform better and I was bored.  After the installation I did discover that Sonar was a bit snappier however my computer would lock up if left inactive for anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes.  I tried on and off for 2 days to correct the problem to no avail.  I reverted back to 7 and all is well.
