  • Is it possible to open 32bit projects on a 64bit machine

I have both a 32bit and 64bit machine running Win7.  Can I open my projects and bundles saved from the 32bit Win 7 on the 64bit machine and visa versa?

I have 4gigs of ram on the 32.  That seems to be plenty of ram to run X1 isn't it? No? I could go with both 64bit but, I like running Reason in Rewire more AND Demension or something doesn't operate in 64. I suppose if and when I but the Reason Record Duo that need will disapear anyway. And I have Spectrasonics Omnisphere so really, what other softsynth do I need. Everything seems to have a price.  Record doesn't support VST operation. Sonar 64bit doesn't suppor Rewire. I just don't know what I want or should do.  Reason is easy to use, good sounds tons of refills. Omnishere is an awesome VST but can't use it ouside of Sonar.  Argh, this hurts my brain meats.

Project files are universal. 32 bit and 64 bit program doesn't entere into it. So YES.

4 GIGS enough RAM - YES but windows wont let you use it all in a 32 bit OS.

Dimension pro is fully 64 bit if you'v installed the correct version.

It's not SONAR 64 bit that wont run Rewire. It's that the Rewire library is not written for 64 bit. Contact Propellorheads about this lack of support.

Thanks for the info Mike. Much appreciated.  I'll use my 32 as a back up and a little versatility. Thankfully my saved files are swappable. Cheers!

I have Sonar Platinum installed but when I add a synth to a song most of my synths are 32 bit. Is something wrong with the install?

I have previously had both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Sonar loaded on my computer without a problem.  You can only run one at a time.  Make sure whichever you load first, you change the shortcut name to Sonar- 32bit or Sonar 64 bit or it won't load the second version's shortcut.

That said, Reason runs in 64 bit now - I think anything after Reason 6.  You can load both the 32 and 64 bit versions of it as well.   But frankly?  If you only have 4 gigs of RAM? You are not getting much use out of the 64 bit version.

I think it is Beatscape that only runs in the 32 bit version.  I kind of missed it when they decided not to upgrade it.

Depends totally on your computer OS and which version of Sonar you've installed.

I would start a new thread, this one dates from 5 years ago.

LOL! I didn't even notice the original post when I replied.

I also have a number of my synths showing up as 32 bit VSTIs.  They run fine in my 64 bit version of Sonar Platinum.  Though it does surprise me, as I believed most of them were 64 bit synths. The only thing I can figure is that they came in both 64 and 32 bit and both loaded into VST folder, which shows both versions.  I think I probably need to check a box somewhere.
