I have been considering purchasing a V-Studio 100 recently but have noticed that several retailers have recently lowered the price and at least two that I have found are now showing it as a 'closeout' item. This suggests strongly that it is being discontinued.

If the recently released Windows 8 64-bit drivers are rock solid, I might consider purchasing a V-S100 anyway. If not, I think I'd be too nervous to pull the trigger on a product that is unlikely to be supported or receive driver updates.

Can anyone share any thoughts on how the W8 drivers are performing for you so far? Or thoughts on the future of this product?

Hi there,

In my view if it comes up at a good price, grab it as it's a very good piece of kit.  The pre-amps are very good (same as the VS-700) and the whole thing is well built and robust.  Being able to take it out to a live gig and record to the SD card is a real bonus.  The 6 outs are very useful, and, whilst my Zoom R16 has 8 ins and can also be taken to live gigs, it only has 2 outs.

Roland were very quick to bring out Windows 8 drivers for it and although I don't use it with W8, other programs with W8 drivers are being reported as very stable.  Maybe someone here can give some feedback?

There is quite a large user base worldwide so I think they will support it for some years to come.  They have released several OS updates, one fairly recently, so the omens are good.  Even if it is not supported in the future, it is a solid piece of kit and, unless it breaks down, is likely to give years of good service.

Thanks for the recommendation. Indeed I have found it at a price that is extremely attractive -- only $299 at Sam Ash! I had all but made my mind up to get when a couple friends warned me about getting something that might not be getting new driver updates. For instance, what happens when Windows 8 Service Pack 1 comes out?

If I could get confrmation from some folks here that the current drivers are very stable and, hopefully, some information regarding Roland/Cakewalk's history regarding maintenance driver releases for out-of-production hardware, I think I'll take the plunge. I have researched usb mixers and interfaces exhaustively for the past month, and the VS100 really is an excellent fit for my needs. I would love to own one, I just need my fears alleviated!

Hi,

a few minutes ago I finished another session of recording and playing with the VS-100 and Sonar X2a without any problems under Windows 8 (64-bit). I installed the drivers immedately after release and had no problems with them yet. By the way, I do not very much recording and playing the last weeks, but when I didn't have a problem.
If you got a good price, take it. It is really a very good interface.

Well that price seems really good.

I must admit I took a big risk by buying a VS-100 from Ebay for £100 ($157).  It was an item that was left behind in a music shop that had closed down and it had no software, instructions, PSU or anything. I had no idea how old it was or if it was working. Fortunately it works faultlessly with X2 and the manuals, OS updates and drivers were readily available on the Roland website so I have not looked back.

Best of luck whichever way you choose to go.

I have a VS-100 and it is rock solid. I have a few other Audio interfaces too, The VS-100 is my main one. the preamps are great the drivers work fine with no issues. The vs-100 have drivers for Windows 8 that work well. I paid 599.00 for mine with no regrets. If you find it for 299.00 snatch it up before they are all gone!

Great thread!  I've been toying with getting one and replacing my m-audio Fast Track Ultra ( which crashes my computer every single time I leave it on for any length of time ).
Does the V100 have any kind of monitoring routing software like the Fast Track Ultra?  If so, does it sit outside the DAW software or does it work as a plugin?

It ships with it's own DAW. but it will work in any DAW. It also include a collection of soft synths and some plugins as well. I use mine within Sonar X2 and I have no major issues.

It does not have a monitoring routing system like line 6 or fast track. In my view it does not need one. it works withing Sonar pretty seamlessly. Act allows you to use the controls and knobs on the VS-100 to control the DAW.

It's such a toss up between one of these and the Roland Octa-Capture.

The Octa-Capture is a good choice as well. I do like the play stop and record buttons on the vs-100. I also like the sd card insert so I can record without a computer. I use it when I shoot video in remote locations without the laptop. The advantage of the Octa-Capture is the amount of inputs. both are good choices. I would say it depends on your needs.
