I know... I don't NEED a control surface. But I like the idea of being able to record onto the VS-100
However, I like the idea of all the preamps in the Octa-Capture. WHich I don't NEED all of them either, UNLESS I decide to start recording my drum parts.

I'd like a hybrid I suppose. The VS-100 with all the IO of the Octa.

I agree the Pre's seem really good, but what dissapoints me is the sad old ASIO UI that pops up,its the same one as with my USB 1.1 UA25-EX,and it struggles at any lower than,1 or 2"notches" left from "reccommended"[buffer size].

I can't imagine WDM[KS] would bring better Low Latency Performance, but I would like to know how other VS 100 owners run their units?

I got mine very cheap on ebay for $163[without power adaptor]but my Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 interface,is leaps and bounds better,on the Round Trip Latency front[latest drivers, firmware etc].

For example, the KA6 has its own UI,with  its own version of the Latency test included, and can run at 32 samples, the VS can only go down to 48 samples indicated, and won't run or open a project, until at least 100 at the very least!....dissapointed,you bet, though more testing on my OC'ed desktop, will hopefully yield better results[like the UA25 did],and obviously, there is the control surface, but as a USB 2.0 interface,I would hope the Octacapture performs  A LOT BETTER!

The reason I got the N.I unit,was this thread,which[now unsurprisingly]doesn't include,any Roland/cakewalk interfaces:http://www.gearslutz.com/board/8253121-post349.html

EDIT-EDIT-EDIT-EDIT-EDIT!!!! Saturday 23rd March 2.16 AM  Well, after resetting/reinstalling EVERYTHING,My VS-100 Now performs admirably, smaller projects can be run at 64samples[ASIO] at 24 bit/48KHz,for an "indicated" 9.1 ms of Round Trip Latency-MUCH MUCH better than before.

While th N.I definitely does better in the RTL stakes, the VS for $162.50,was a complete STEAL....my attitude towards this piece of gear, has TOTALLY changed.

While 9.1ms RTL on smallish projects, certainly isn't amazing,I hope to better that on my sig. 4.6GHz [alreadt]aging i7 2600K box,and about the N.I KA6?,well it has developed an INCREDIBLY irritating habit,of CONSTANTLY losing "connection" with the "one and ONLY" USB2.0 port,on my 2011 dell XPS i7 2630qm laptop, and IT IS NOT the cable!!

While re-testing the VS-100,I used the N.I.KA6 USB cable!,with NO connection losses EVER......bus powered interfaces, something that RME's "Babyface" is,I bet IT doesn't do that!?

Cheers All[again]

You can connect the two, roland has a pdf about this. I would buy the vs-100 and then get the octa-capture later. The vs-100 is worth $599, it is built like a tank.

Since the VS-100 is discontinued maybe there will be something new for Musikmesse. Anyone hear any rumors?

Hi,

I can't imagine that Cakewalk will release new hardware on their own brand after what happended with the VS-series. I think future hardware will be only released from Roland (maybe with a look on Cakewalk), like the new interfaces already.

IMHO it is also the better way to make hardware from Roland more popular. Because someone working with another DAW than sonar would less buy a product from Cakewalk. That's what happened with the VS-100. Even it works well with other DAW's it's not so popular.

I received my VS 100 last Thursday.  My price from Sam Ash was $259 as there was a $40 coupon applied from Presidents Day Sale.  The other posters are right, it is built like a tank.  I am running it with X2a and Win 8 with zero problems.  I am very happy camper!  I plan to get the Octa-Capture unit in the future for expansion.

Got it from Amazon for $400 last Saturday. Guess who has convinced me to buy this great piece of gear? Amazon's customer reviews! Well, that was the only place where folks were buying VS-100 because of latency and dropout problems with other audio interfaces they've been using. I've been using Echo Audio - Layla24/96 for years, but just recently, when I have switched to Win 7 Ultimate and Sonar X2 (average projects with 30+ tracks) the board could not keep up. Pops, cracks, dopouts, you name it. After reading the Amazon's customer review who experienced the same problems I have decided to give a shot and buy VS-100. Man, was I happy to experience total smoothness and perfect integration with my studio as far as VS-100 is concerned! This is one hell of a piece of gear for a home studio. You can't get better any other audio interface for that kind of money. Period.  I hope Roland will not discontinue making it.

Hi,
I'm running a really old version of Sonar V-Studio 100, v1.20 & am wanting to update to a more recent version.
Can someone give me some advice on how to go about doing that, as I'm unable to find tech support on the website. Sounds pretty green I know, but if you could point me in the right direction would be most appreciated.
Cheers
