Hello everyone:
Are you or have you successfully using the Akai MPD 218 with Sonar or CBB?
If so, what are your configurations?

Thanks!

Never tried mpd218. I do use with mpd26 and it’s a pain. I find most controllers are a pain with Cakewalk

Thank you!

I am certain there are Akai gurus out there but I find their products the worse when it comes to playing collaboratively with other systems.

Here is my issue:

I have a controller Keyboard but who wants to play drums on keys, right. So I added the pads (MPD 218).
The issue is, if I use the Pad to play something and decide to change to the Keyboard, then the Pad no longer works. In fact to get the Pad to work, I have to first remove it from available MIDI devices by un-checking the box under MIDI device Then close Sonar and reopen, then re-select the pad under MIDI Devices. However, if I select the Keyboard, then the Pad does not work and I have to repeat the above process.

It sucks!

I had same problem. I solved by getting controller with drum pads.... but that has issues with Cakewalk too

Not sure what I am going to do with this, totally useless.
Maybe a foot mat.

Till the keyboard and MPD use the same name for MIDI port, I do not see why they can not work together...
I have several controllers and they work in parallel (MPK mini, M-Audio keyboard, Kawai DP, VS-20, etc.).

Have you checked Windows device manager for orphaned MIDI devices (with "show hidden.." option set)? Cakewalk traditionally does not like that (and they have made it worth in some 2017.x update). So if you have eve re-connected any MIDI device to different USB port, that can course troubles (also with audio interfaces...). If there are such devices visible or if current device is mentioned like "device name - 2", only deleting all instances of the device and so reinstalling it, plus deleting TTSSEQ.INI, helps get the situation under control.
