Hi guys,

I am a SONAR veteran, but pretty much only for the audio side. I have not ventured too much into MIDI and synths etc... So I come here to humbly ask my fellow SONARites...

I am looking for a synth pad sound like choir ahhs. Similar to the choir ahhs in TTS-1, but higher quality. I am looking for that and other sounds similar to that.

I have SONAR Platinum as my DAW. Can anyone recommend something for me?

Thank you,
-Charles

Dimension Pro comes with "Ahh Female.prog" and "Ahh Male Choir.prog".

I also have added to DimPro Digital Sound Factory's Vol.3 "Vocal Expressions" which has a bunch of oohs and aahs.

Omnisphere 2 has several choir patches, including soloists and children's choirs. Plus, with Omni, you get a ton of other sounds that are extremely versatile and very high quality. Otherwise, I'd suggest Kontakt choir libraries (if you already have Kontakt).

Rap Pro has some good sounds.  SampleTank also has ooohs, aaaaahs and a bunch of really nice PADs.
Strings always sound nice as a PAD to me too.

Are you more interested in the sustained sound, or the initial oooh and aaah parts?

Kontakt is probably your best route, in terms of both versatility and bang:buck ratio. There are dozens of vocal libraries available, from usable but limited freebies to full-blown articulated choirs and everything in between. Kontakt even comes with a simple but usable choir library bundled in the factory content.

Charles,
If you own Kontakt 4/5, the Hideaway Studio Pentodian Resonator Choir is well worth the $18 cost:

Thank you everyone for your input. I only have what comes with SONAR Platinum at this point. I have never purchased any soft synth separately before. I checked out Dimension Pro as suggested by Paul. That might work. It doesn't necessarily have to actually be a choir. I'm just thinking that a choir or similar sound is what will work.

I will be working on a specific metal project and will need some sustaining pads to fill out the sound behind the guitars while sounding epic and glorious...ha ha ha. The sounds I was coming across so far all seem to be geared more towards modern electronic stuff, rather then ancient epic metal. So I am on a search...

I seem to remember way back in the day that the Korg Triton had some sounds that would work nicely. But I want to keep everything I do solely within SONAR. I am not opposed to purchasing a third part synth such as Kontact, but if I can find what I am looking for in SONAR I would prefer that.

I will try the suggestions here and see what happens. Thank you guys for your time.

I have Sample Tank 3,  it comes with sth I guess you are looking for. If you interested send me a midi file and I'll send you back a wave file.

Of course, if you won't be using a lot of soft synths going forward, ignore my comments; but fll Kontackt is a great invenstment for two reasons:

1. It comes with a great sound library.
2. If you have the full player, there are lots of free and cheap libraries.  A lot of them can't afford to pay the Kontakt license fee, so you have to have the full player to use them.

NOTE: When you buy full Kontakt you get it's full factory library (Factory LIbrary); however, even the free Kontakt player offers a reasonably good selection of basic sounds (Factory Selection).  Unfortunately, I don't see vocals in the free library.

If you're up to date with Sonar Plat, maybe check out some of the pads in Rapture Session.  (I'm assuming, since I'm not up to date, and haven't looked at any of the new content yet).
