  • User vs Programmer Annoyances

meh
Is it just me or is it annoying that after opening a project Sonar does not then know where the projects folder is when using the File/Open or Import/Export menus.
This is something that if the programmer was a user I think this should have been a no brainer.
I can supply the code if needed........:-)

I don't recall having that problem.  If I open a project and then either save it or open another it defaults to the last project folder used.

Actually, all of CW's programmers are, in fact, users. As well as most of the non-programming staff. But even coder-users sometimes overlook details.

I'm not sure what the OP is talking about. I don't recall a project not knowing where its audio folder is as long as I have not moved it around. I have some very old projects. Projects that were done before per projects folders and rely on a global audio folder. Those projects need to be told where things are.

No problem here either.

And I think the CW programmers reading this are probably shaking their heads at the presumptions of some users who can't be bothered to ask a simple question before ranting.

Oh, to answer your original question.... It's just you.

I can definitely reproduce something the OP is complaining about, and his complaint makes sense to me....

I just opened a project.  Then I selected the File > Export audio menu option.  When the Export Audio dialog comes up, it's pointing to my Cakewalk Content\Audio folder, not the folder that contained the project file I just opened.  IMO, and apparently the OP's, it would make more sense to use the project file's folder location as the default for the Export dialog (and other dialogs).

Maybe there's a setting for this somewhere?

Me too !   Same for audio import.  I never go into this folder and have to continually dig myself out of it.

I'm away from my DAW right now, but start here and verify your file locations:

There's some helpful info below the screenshot too -- in particular, regarding the Global Audio folder.

I just tried it.  I opened a project, within a given folder Cakewalk Projects folder.  I tried a "Save As" and the projects folder that I had opened the file from came up as the folder to save.  I then did an File/Open and it went to the same projects folder.

Export and Import use the path in the "Wave Files" entry in Preferences > File > Folder Locations
