Export and Import use the path in the "Wave Files" entry in Preferences > File > Folder Locations

That's fine, but not useful when you work in different places and import and export stuff from all over (but usually close by to where you're currently working or where you accessed last time).  I wouldn't know what to set the preference to.  What's needed is the option "last location used", and two entries for import and export.

Sounds like a feature request.
It might be easier to use the media browser and setup a few preset locations in it.

I kinda prefer it as is. I bounce out tracks to a predictable folder. I don't keep my exports mixed with the project files.

... and you wouldn't want to because Clean Audio and CWAF Tool will whack files that aren't referenced by tracks in the project.

If you want an exported file to be in the project folder, you can just bounce to tracks, and Archive/Mute the track if you don't want the exported file to playback. This is how I create masters for export. I then export that 'Master Bounce' track to the global path specified in Preferences (not the default 'Audio Library' path in my case) when I'm satisfied with the final mix.

For import, I usually drag 'n' drop from the source folder, so I don't much care what folder File > Import defaults to.

File > Open will default to the current project path if it was opened from the File menu, but not if it was opened as an existing project from Start Screen or by dragging and dropping from the file system, and hasn't yet been re-saved.

I use the media browser a lot for transferring files from one place to another.

Likewise.

I have separate folders for all my Exports which all default to my "J" drive, as specified in Folder Locations

I have requested this since Sonar 7. My suggestion is to make the path variable static, so that it opens first time in you declared path, but if you navigate to another path, it remembers it for the rest of the session. A simple change that will not interfere with the standard way of working and save so much clicking around.

Actually, all of CW's programmers are, in fact, users.

I have spent my entire vacation running into and chasing down bugs. And this is not the first time. My lasting impression has been of programmers under pressure to fulfill stated requirements but with no idea how a feature will be used in practice. Certainly the programmers cannot have used what they programmed because they would have found the bugs immediately, instead of us users.

I'm away from my DAW right now, but start here and verify your file locations:

https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=Dialogs2.062.html

There's some helpful info below the screenshot too -- in particular, regarding the Global Audio folder.

Actually I can't start there--page unresponive. I expect that is because it is a secure page (https://) and probably is a link from your account/installation to online help. If you want to reference help/documentation for the rest of us you probably need to do so via: http://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3
