I have set it up for 6 minutes or 12 changes. Instead it autosaves much too frequently, pretty randomly, sometimes there is only few seconds between two autosaves. It seems like even going from one marker to another is considered as change (!?) I have first noticed that in Hopkinton and it is same or worse since then. Anybody experienced that?

Since way back I've noticed this yes. I currently have it set to something like 15 min and 500 changes and still see it save more than expected. I have pretty good manual save habits as well...

I too have seen this and it was such a problem I disabled it. But would really like to enable it again, so hope it gets fixed in a monthly release soon.

I gave up on autosave years ago. It clogged my project folders with autosaves of autosaves. I added a save button to the custom control bar module and hit it after I've made a few changes.

I have this maddening problem off and on.  No idea why it comes or goes.  There are other threads on this.  Here is one I posted with no response: http://forum.cakewalk.com/Autosave-Wacky-in-Hopkinton-Platinum-m3279545.aspx  Here is another that generated some discussion:   http://forum.cakewalk.com/Auto-Save-Issue-m3331478.aspx]  but I have never seen it officially acknowledged as a problem that needs fixing.  Why don't you report it on the Problems Report forum.  I couldn't find any threads on it there.  http://forum.cakewalk.com/Problem-Reports-f77.aspx

Try disabling it for a while (a few days) and then re-enable.  I actually have not had the problem again for several months.

Good luck,
Bill

The problem is you cant do anything during autosave and why on earth it does not follow my "Preferences". It takes 5-7 seconds every other minute so it really slows the process down (and is annoying). I also have impression too frequent autosaves are causing crashes.

Thanks Bill, I just did report it. Actually I don't see other way of disabling it than raising number of minutes and changes to ridiculously high number. People say they switch it off, but I don't see "off" switch.

Set both time and number of edits to 0, which is the default.

I use it  based only on time, and during a project's initial stages when I get "in the zone" and often forget to hit Ctrl-S. I then turn it off once the project takes shape and the changes aren't coming fast and furious. Doing it by changes may have made more sense back when DAWs were simpler but it's too easy to accumulate a zillion changes really fast. Saving every 12 changes would drive me insane too.

I have to say it has saved my butt a few times, especially when versioning is enabled and I can roll back to an earlier version.

Thanks Craig, one can always count on helpful hint from you. It saved my butt too, I am not questioning its usefulness. I am just sure in my case it goes off a lot more often than after 12 changes, sometimes I make no change at all and it autosaves every minute or so (even though the time is set to 6 minutes). The "Preferences" settings are ignored.

A 'change' could be triggered by a VST with a random element changing value of one of its exposed parameters.
