  • Getting Addictive Drums patterns into Sonar Platinum projects....

With Session Drummer 3, I'd insert a MIDI track and then insert SD3, choose my kit and pattern, then drag the 8th note to the MIDI track and take it from there.  Then, if I wanted to extend the pattern in my project, I'd drag the corner until the pattern went as long as I needed it to.

It's not quite working like that with AD2.  I know how to get the patterns within AD2, but I don't know how to get them into the project and then how to extend them for however long they should go for in the project.

Simply click-drag it to your midi track!

Drag the midi clip from the AD2 window onto your midi track for Addictive drums, then right click on that clip an turn on groove clip looping.

Thanks!  That's different than Session Drummer, right?  I don't remember having to enable groove clip looping?

correct, the Session Drummer midi files are already clips without you having to rightclick it / enable it...

Ok, great, just got it working.... oh wow is this awesome.  INSTANT project enhancement!  Just another quick question - I'm inserting AD2 as a track template and obviously all the routing is automatically done that way.  Do I need to do any MORE routing between AD2 and Sonar?  Also, how do you guys deal with volume?  Do you use Sonar or AD2 as a "master" volume control?

depends on the style of your music... you may find that the master volume on your AD2 is high enough level, or you can increase the track volume a bit until it peaks, or put a limiter on the track... or add a bus track with a compressor on it and have a SEND on your drum track to the compressed bus for parallel processing...

agree with Maarkr, I like to send everything to a drum bus. You can include that in your template. AD2 is very flexible to work with. I like the idea that you can draw your own envelopes, especially on cymbals, which have such a long decay they can get in the way.

Thanks everyone.  In the mixer within AD 2, I don't see any tracks for crash or ride cymbals, but I HEAR them in the pattern that I chose.  Any info about this?  Also, what are the tracks marked, "flexi" supposed to be?

The cymbal's are routed to the overhead faders
