Hi,
I recently encountered a really weird and annoying issue with external MIDI sync in SONAR X3. I sent sync to a hardware drum machine, a sequencer and some other gear from SONAR, which has never been an issue before. The only new addition is a Moog MIDIMurf, which seemed to be syncing fine for a while. At some point, it became obvious that the Moog wasn't actually syncing to SONAR's clock. Various device reboots and computer restarts later, I was still unable to get the Moog to sync. I was inclined to blame the Moog, being the only new device, but I decided to test that by booting up Ableton Lite, and setting it up to send clock signals to the same devices, including the Moog. Everything synced perfectly first time, and stayed synced. This would imply that the hardware is not the issue, but I would prefer to stick with SONAR if possible, as the version of Ableton I have is limited to 8 tracks for a start. So if my hardware is not the issue, why would the sync to SONAR be out of whack? I initially though that I had hit the notorious MIDI device limit in Windows (I have plenty of MIDI devices), but if that was the case, wouldn't the same problem appear in Ableton? I would appreciate any assistance with this problem! I am on Windows 7, SONAR X3 with the latest update applied, I'm not sure if listing the outboard hardware would be relevant? My "sound card" is a Yamaha 01v96i mixing desk.

I know the advise is generic, but have you checked that MIDI settings (in Project / MIDI) are still correct? Sonar is knows for an ability to silently loose some settings in case you have started it without all devices connected and powered...
 
For debugging try some software midi with monitoring possibility (f.e. MIDIox). From Sonar perspective, there is no different between hardware and software MIDI devices and so you should see what is going on.

Thanks for the reply. I did check the MIDI settings, nothing I did made the problem go away. I would definitely have assumed it was a hardware fault if it would not sync properly to Ableton, but it does.

What MIDI interface are you using, and how is the MIDI muRF connected to it? Is it on its own MIDI port, or daisy-chained off another device? If it's on a dedicated MIDI OUT from your interface, is that port enabled in MIDI Devices in SONAR?
 
Does the RATE LED  flash as advertised?
 
"MIDI_RTC_CLOCK: MIDI CLOCK sets the rate of the pattern clock. When synced to MIDI CLOCK, the RATE LED flashes ORANGE at the Clock division."

This ^ includes Edit > Preferences > Project - MIDI ... choosing all the MIDI Sync Output Ports that your slave devices are connected to ... (mentioned here for completeness).

Did you ever get your MIDI MURF to sync properly in Sonar?
 
I'm having the exact same issue with Sonar X1 and the MIDI MURF.  It seems the first time I press play in Sonar after powering on my devices everything is in sync, however if I stop/start the sequence the MIDI MURF is playing the correct BPM but it is out of phase with all the other devices.    The sound coming out of the MIDI MURF does not play on any beat or proper subdivision of the beat but is instead in the cracks.
