I just got one of the new Roland Boutique Synths, the JU-06 and had a problem when I connected it to my computer with a miro-USB cable (which they don't include, btw).
 
When I start Sonar the audio drivers are all disabled except for the JU-06. Only the JU-06 is checked for both In and Out and all my Emu 1212 ins and outs are grayed out. If I unplug the JU-06 I can re-enable the Emu ins and outs.
 
Does anyone know how these synths can work with Sonar, or any other recording software? I assume I've missed something simple!

Hi. This might be of no help, but. If you connect your synth as an ASIO device, your audio interface will likely disappear, as SONAR does not like having two ASIO devices connected at the same time (with some exceptions). If you connect your synth as a MIDI device (for sending notes, cc, etc), and use the audio out from synth, into your audio interface for capturing sound, I think you will have better luck.  Others may know better.

Thanks. It might be useful information, however I'm not "connecting it as.." anything. I just plug the cable in and the driver installs and there are no choices that I know of, so far. So either this is a situation unique to Sonar, or Roland has not thought this through. Seems unlikely that it is that unique though since I know there are mixers that can connect directly to a USB port.

Try to uncheck the Roland drivers in Preferences (P), Audio ,Devices, and check your audio interface drivers.

I had the same problem, The only way I could get it to work was to unselect the audio device like Zargg71 said. You can then reselect your USB Audio device (I plugged the JU-06 in after Sonar Platinum was running) then I was able to hit P and go to Midi Devices and select it. I did have to route the audio through my mixer though, which is not a big problem as I can record the parts digital when ready, only an issue with this setup via MIDI. Would love to hear a better resolution though!

It was concerning when I 1st went to use it, I started running on batteries but of course the 1st night I used it in the full rig I forgot to turn it off and wasted 4 AA's.
 
It is a fun little synth though! Love what Roland did, would have paid $25 more for 1/4" outs though. Thinking of getting the Jupiter version too.

Ha! I got the JP-08. Couldn't resist. I never liked the Jupiter that much though (it's been almost 30 years since the last time I played one) and I don't find anything really interesting about this one either. It's nice, just not... different. Nothing jumps out at me as being unique. So far, at least. 
 
But I did the same thing! Left it on all night, killed the first set of batteries! The ones they provide are the cheapest ever made though so they wouldn't last long anyway.
 
And I also would have paid more for 1/4" outputs. Same with the MS-20mini. Also either a normal USB or mini instead of micro. 
 
I will play around with the USB connection more in the future, but it's not important for now. I just think it would be really cool if I could just pull one of these out of a drawer and plug in ONE usb cable and start recording.
