  • Updating from Foxboro to Lex: Do I need to download the "Core Plugins"?

Happy New Year all.

Seems Sonar still aren't being quite as helpful/descriptive enough with some of these downloads. I would really like full lists with dates of when individual items were released or last updated.

So as it stands... I of course have all the Platinum plugins up to and including Foxboro. It would be redundant to download that entire pile again (or even just the "core plugins" whatever that means). AFAIK the only new plugs are the Style Dials. Are those in the "Core Plugin" download? If not what package are they in?

Did I miss any updates to other plugins that might be in the "Core Plugin" download?

How about the Craig Anderton stuff or any other packages? (I already downloaded Rap Session and the Zeta update so no worries there).

I just don't want to be downloading these HUGE files unnecessarily because they eat up drive space and are a pain to sort through.

And no... I have no interest in using the CCC. This is why I would like fully itemized and dated lists for everything so I can review what is new and what I need instead of the bulk packages (but the bulk packages are packaged and itemized well... I just want to easily see more detail of what's IN them).

Anyway... ranting aside what should I be looking at while I have myself logged in and snagging stuff.

Looking forward to trying out Lexington.

Thanks.

Eh... the Core Plugins download wasn't that big anyway so I just snagged it.

Still curious if there is any other packages that might have new stuff since the Foxboro/Gloucester era.

Cheers.

Without using CCC, the only way to know for sure is to work your way down the list.  Any items that have "Show Older Downloads" have been updated along the way.  The only way to know if the current is later than yours is to compare the file names from the last time you downloaded.

If you have NEVER used CCC to install anything, you MIGHT be able to check your current versions in Control Panel>Programs>Programs and Features.

You really should learn to trust CCC.  I was an initial CCC holdout as well, but I'm a believer now

This is what I'm saying. All they need to do is add a proper date and description of EXACTLY what has been updated, if anything at all. An itemized list with separate dl links would be preferable but I understand them not wanting to parse things out on their servers to that extreme.

And I refuse to use the CCC. It's just not going to happen. If the CCC has the information to look for outdated stuff then surely we can be trusted to do this ourselves with the release/update dates of specific items and which installer packages they reside in.

Anyway... I don't want this to be about my ongoing annoyance with Cakewalk's push into the whole "always online/let us creep around your computer" policies that have become de rigeur in software tech.

I'd just like to know if there is anything specific I may have missed over the past few months. I have to yank the wire and get on with it soon. I have tracks to finish.

My personal protest/temper tantrum in regards to the CCC can wait for another day. lol

Cheers.

I understand.  I agree that dates & coincident Sonar release info being shown with the downloads would be very handy.

TODAY though, you'll have to trudge thru it.

I did do a quick look and Eng FX, DR, Boutique, Anderton and Local docs have all been updated along the way.  You'll have to compare the latest versions against what you already have

Thanks, dood. Sorry for being a prat. Update day just gets me a little snippety due to the lack of detailed/dated info. They can take the time to write up those nice promotional blurbs for each entry but not some organizational details for us stubborn offliners.

And yeah... I'll have to keep checking the version release numbers. I've been working on a system for that (involves notepad docs and organizing the installers into subfolders etc) but it's still pretty hectic at this point. lol

Cheers.

You need to use the CCC. Its faster and it tells you what is updated and what isn't.

Alright... I did a whole pile of scrounging and cross-referencing with my other update/download sessions. I've got everything except the Boutique suite dl'd and ready to install.

What was added/updated to the Boutique FX Suite this year? Actually this is the one installer that is actually SMALLER than previous installers (AFAICT).

What did they dun did? Remove something? Was anything actually added or updated?

I'm downloading it anyway but I cannot think of anything they added to this suite over the year... BUT I did not install the Boutique Suite at ALL since SPlat came out because it looked as though nothing new was added since X3.

To explain... to me that installer from Allston/Braintree did not have anything new that I did not already have with X3/X2/X1 so I did not bother (from what I recall).

Now there are two entries for download and I'm curious what is in it (and the original one now I guess in case I missed something originally)... and as stated the newest one is SMALLER than the original one.

If anything this is refining my update cataloging process (which is all going into a notepad document with dates, version numbers, details and installation status) but I would still like Cake to provide this more granular info.

And Bob... thanks. Your suggestion/probing got me viewing the download area in a more useful way.

Cheers.

No prob.  FWIW, CCC doesn't run on it's own.  It's purely On Demand so you don't have to worry about it sneaking around looking for pRon when you're not expecting it.

I do understand.  I held out for a really long time.
